So i have been snowboarding for years but not enough for it to be worth getting my own board (since i was still growing). I just got a board for christmas since i will be going to college in CO and i got a ?. I might take it out to my local ski hill tomorrow and dont have time to get it waxed or to wax it. Is it ok to ride the way it came from the store or is waxing pretty much mandatory?

if its a reputable brand it comes waxed.
If its not waxed, you'll just go slightly slower

waxing wont protect your base, its more for speed

Yeah waxing isn't for protection, its for speed. Since its your first time riding it you're probably better off not having it waxed while you get use to it.

How can you not have time to wax it? It's so simple to do. In fact, instead of making this thread you could have been waxing your board. If you're still too lazy you can just drop it off at most sporting good stores and they'll do it for you for really cheap.

A good hot waxing takes about half an hour if you coun't cool down time.

The pro shop, assuming there is one. Should sell waxing wipes so if your really in a hurry you could just go that way and do a qicky wax in about 30 seconds.

Wax does protect your board a little, don't be fooled. That little tree nick that you hit without wax could mean you are going home and breaking out the Ptex.

As for riding without wax for 1 day, you should be fine. If you are planning on getting buttery in the park, pay the 10 bucks, get a quick wax on the mountain. Maybe get your edges detuned while you are at it ^_^.

wax protects your board a shit load.

A k2 factory wax is alright, but its still a factory wax, so get that waxed asap.

Dont get your edges detuned, get them de-beveled
