Lets all dig holes and have an Indian Ocean party when we get there... I hope there arent any stingrays.

only some parts of the world don't end up in the water. For instance, south america- You'd have to dig in the water to end up in china- I think

You know what I've always thought about that is, with gravity, at some point you would be digging up, and not down. You would think that then you would almost be stuck there, cause you cant fall back up or down...

If I started the hole in my backyard I'd end up in the Indiana Ocean just southeast of Austrailia.

On a sidenote, if you want to end up in China, start in Argentina

I should show this to my cat. She's always trying to dig through the earth, starting in her litterbox. Don't think she wants to end up in the southern Indian Ocean though, from how she reacts to baths.

What would happen if we did get a hole deep enough from, lets say anywhere in the US to the Indian Ocean.....like water would pour through the hole to the other side or something.....

Well, first of all, that's not possible. Do you know what the earth is made of?

It's not just dirt all the way down

I don't think...

If we could somehow make a hole through both sides the water would poor in and burn up.

I dug and I ended up a little south of mnx.

It's a hypothetical situation, no shit it isn't made out of dirt.

Smack dab in the middle of the Indian Ocean. A little closer to Madagascar than Australia.

lol

what if you dug a hole all the way through, then tried to jump through it. Neglecting fall damage, and the molton core what would happen?

phriq

25-01-2007 13:29:11

just say you could dig though? would those holes be exaust pipes from the earths core and propell the earth?

i think you would constantly be slingshot back and forth inside the earth untill you became still in the center. .......then.....hmmm would you just float in the middle? ...maybe in the core the gravity is so strong it would just rip you apart? or maybe becuase the earth is spinning, you would fall and then be shot out the other side into space through centripical force.,,,what a thought

justinag06

25-01-2007 13:33:48

see centripetal force makes it a tough problem, we suggested you build a curved hole like when you draw a ying/yang to account for the centripetal acceleration.

but I think your estimation is right about the oscillation

i deffinataly the world should take the brightest brains to test this one.....and i think all of us at FIPG would be the best peolpe for the job...i mean just look at our theries....i say out with scientists and in with us!
