Sorry if Im hijacking the thread but... I was thinking about getting a bass, but I would be going in completely new so I was thinking of getting like a pack or something. You know a pack that comes with the bass and the amp and maybe some accessories. Can anyone recommend me one?

well, to be honest, brand names mean nothing.

go to a store that has a bunch of bass' and pick them up and try 'em.

go for feel and comfort, also sound. and make sure the pick ups dont suck or are a shitty brand.

good luck

how are you confused?

squire bass' dont use fender pick ups. and some shitty brands of pick ups are used in high quality bass', which degrade the bass.

simple as that.

I believe that brands do matter. Nike shoes are different from walmart brand, so I am guessing the same thing goes for sound systems.

No they're not, they're exactly the same (besides price and name). Both are made by kids in sweatshops working for less than $1 a day. Then these companies ship them over here, or wherever else in the world, and then charge people (fools) for overpriced branding.

Ibanez make good instruments, as do Gibson, Fender, Rickenbacker and others. When it comes to guitars, you want to pay a little extra for a good quality instrument.

If you are just starting out, a cheap bass is fine. If you change your mind and don't like it later on, you will mad if you bought an expensive bass. You can always upgrade later.

I don't know about you but I would MUCH rather have Nike shoes than shoes from Walmart. I do believe there is a difference in quality when it comes to Nike vs Walmart shoes - especially when it comes to sports.

I believe that the naked running guy was trying to say, was that the actual brand of the guitar doesn't matter, but the brand of the pickups do.

Most of the packs that come with a small amp are made by a brand such as Austin. Low quality wood and pickups, decent for learning the instrument. However, I would recommend spending a little bit more to get an instrument that will satisfy your needs once you move beyond the beginners level stage. With bass guitars, Fender is always a nice choice. Just go into a music shop and ask the salesmen for their opinion. Ask which ones have decent pickups. Also, what kind of music are you going to be playing? If you're like most teenagers, it will be rock/punk/metal or something of the like. Most people just blast up the volume and the tone knob and pick away. If you're going for blues or something, you might want to consider something with more tonal variation.

Get a Yamaha rbx-270 if you can find one, they dont make them anymore. If not the rbx-170 is good too. Best bang for the buck bass there is, awesome sound/build quality too for the price.

akalic

17-01-2007 00:09:38

ibanez are sweet, depends what kidna music you like

if you want more of the jazzy feel then get a fender jazz or a stingray (expensive but good) or ibanez

or if you want just a solid sound get cheap yamahas
