HALP this might be in the wrong section of the forum sorry...

We were recently notified that one of your buyers filed a chargeback
and
asked their card issuer to reverse a payment made to you.

Although a chargeback may appear to be similar to a PayPal claim, it is
actually a process initiated outside of PayPal and controlled by the
card
issuer. One of the unique benefits of using PayPal is that we help you
fight unwarranted chargebacks and attempt to recover your funds.

It is up to the card issuer to decide whether or not they believe that
the
buyer’s chargeback is valid and they are asking for some information
about
this transaction from you.

So here is the story. I sold this guy a wii and a game on ebay, when it first came out or within that week. I thought everything was ok but two months later he is trying to 'steal' the money of out my paypal account for no real reason. I'm not sure whats going on but I don't know what to do...this info is really vague sorry ill try to update this soon

edit It looks like he tried to cancel his chargeback W00T

unfortunately this is commonplace with paypal

i lost $500 this way 2 years ago

i love the way they "try to fight for the seller" and never win, and then charge you $10 for the trouble

i got 2 chargebacks against me in the last fe wmonths, and each were for less than $5, so i just accepted liability (even though the buyer was scamming me) thinking that they'd just close it and not charge me $10 to investigate. however, they charge you $10 regardless of whether they actually try to figure it out for oyu or not, so i made $10 selling the items, then lost the $10, plus $20 for paypal's bullshit

i called them and got those motherflilikers to refund the $20 back into my account

They never win? shock

FUCK. I have a $400 chargeback from a few months ago; I provided so much information against the seller and he didn't provide any.

So I still shouldn't expect that money?

People are using the same words here to describe different things.

If you're a buyer or seller, and you're involved in a paypal complaint (INR or SNAD) then paypal investigates the case on their own, invariably siding on the side of the buyer, unless the buyer produces no proof, or ignores the claim. (the claims against the buyer is sometimes (wrongly) called a chargeback).

What I understand to have happened with the OP, is that someone bought his Wii on eBay, paid him via Paypal, funding the purchase with a CC. The buyer then contacted his CC company and initiated a dispute of the paypal payment (AKA Chargeback). Later, it appears the buyer recanted his complaint, and the OP got to keep his money.

correct

that's what happened to me
i faxed them so much stuff they could've made a book

in fact, the entire story goes like this

sold item
buyer paid
6 months go buy
received chargeback, and i disputed it
i won!
2 months go by
received 2nd chargeback from the buyer, and i disputed it again
i lost (wtf?)
i have no recourse (transaction was closed)

$495.00, down the drain

I'm not sure whats going on now but it pisses me off...the money from my account is taken out so I am below negative now. He is trying to chargeback for no receipt which I still have but I bought an extra thing besides what I sold him so I never sent it to him or said I was going to. Should I? I think this bastard is just trying to scam me.

It doesn't look like I can do anything and it is up to paypal sigh

Well you should definately have that chargeback dismissed! Forward them the email confirmation. That is BULLSHIT if you lose! NO WAY that chargeback will go through.

PAYPAL is messed up!

So basically when my fiance and i finally get around to selling her designer purses/shoes etc on ebay we can count on chargebacks for little shits who get away with STEALING??!!

Question Were the buyers that filed chargebacks all newer/low feedback ebay members?[/b53c679fe98]

WTF is right. I use PayPal sometimes on eBay when I'm selling items. Nothing bad has happened to me yet, but now I am certainly worried about it.

Well, just dont sell to new sellers. Put in your auction that reserve the right to cancel bidder's with negative feedback or less than 20 feedback score. And if it is something expensive have them sign for it.

If the package is tracked and require have a signature, then NO WAY can paypal grant their claim. And if they do that that is messed up!!

I swear i get pissed at paypal everytime i read this thread!!!

What, do we have to start using escrow services now????! This is getting beyond riduclous. Paypal takes enough fees that they should offer actual protection.

[b317dd48439]
If they do a chargeback, are you given any information about how to contact their credit card company with some claim number or something to dispute it?? Or basically they write a lie to their cc company and they take their customer's word in their investigation??[/b317dd48439]

does ebay delete your messages automatically after a while?

I provided them with the following screenshots

[removed] (this screenshot has my address so I removed it—I'll repost it later after I blur the address—but it's apple's confirmation that they shipped the iPod to his house.)

And the buyer who did a chargeback had 8 feedback (I had over 50 at the time) and provided no proof.

[i1135f99d93]And I still lost my $400.[/i1135f99d93]

PayPal does offer seller protection. However there are some rules that must be followed.
[quotefc6563a40f="PayPal"] What is the Seller Protection Policy?

PayPal protects sellers from possible fraudulent payment activity by actively screening transactions for fraudulent buyers; from false buyer claims by providing a team of chargeback specialists and a resolution center that helps sellers resolve disputes in a fair manner; and by providing the Seller Protection Policy which encourages good selling practices that in turn protect the seller from possible fraud.

The Seller Protection Policy is designed to protect sellers that have followed a set of good selling practices against chargebacks resulting from the unauthorized use of cards or false claims of non-receipt. Sellers in the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada are eligible to receive up to $5,000.00 USD annual coverage under the Seller Protection Policy.

In order for a transaction to be eligible for protection under the Seller Protection Policy, the transaction must be marked as "SPP eligible" and sellers must

li Have a qualified Verified Business or Premier Account.
li Ship to the confirmed address on the Transaction Details page
li Retain reasonable proof of postage that can be tracked online
li Require signature receipt on transactions equal to or more in value than $250.00 USD
[/quotefc6563a40f]

...Wait, then why didn't I get my money back? I don't understand at all.

Dave82

17-01-2007 18:46:49

^^ Did you ship to a confirmed address?

Thanks DMorris too. I remember reading those. I thought there was also something about having a feedback score of at least 98% to qualify for seller protection.
My comment was implying they should offer "actual protection" because they advertise it, however look at everyone losing hundreds of dollars!!!

I am hoping that if I follow those rules perfectly then Paypal wont screw me over when [u6179545c56]some loser decides to file a false chargeback and have a merry ole day with the merchandise AND money[/u6179545c56]. Fuckers.

My gf found a buyer from a purse forum for one of her purses she wants to sell. She was telling me how they buyer will transfer the money via paypal. I said that we should make an ebay auction anyway, even if a private buy-it-now just so we qualify for protection. The offer for the purse was $900, so I just dont want to get screwed. I was going to suggest the UPS money order thing...... but i learned from a previous thread that that is not 100% safe either from fuckers.

SPP is a load of horse caca. It's almost impossible to win a SNAD case because Paypal will invariably side with the buyer, even in cases where the buyer is egregiously wrong, can't or won't read the terms and conditions of the auction, or simply lies about the condition of the item. Paypal is concerned about one thing, and one thing only, their bottom line. Paypal knows that if they keep buyers happy, then buyers will continue to buy items, and every time a buyer buys something, he pays a seller, and the seller pays a fee to Paypal.

However, until something better comes along, I'll continue to use paypal/ebay
