It says the asteroid hitting on earth is equivalent to 65,000 hiroshima bombs... shock

The bombs used on hiroshima are pretty small in comparison to today' atom bombs, which are hundreds to thousands of times stronger.

So it's more like 65-100 modern-day bombs going off, which is of course still more than enough to destroy humanity, but the asteroid wouldn't do anything we couldn't do ourselves.

Yeah, heard about this a couple of years ago. When you think about how overdue we are for a sizable impact, we're actually sort of lucky it's this size.

I also like how NASA speaks as if it is still the end-all and be-all of everything space related. They are really fighting to retain their relevance these days in the face of future private exploitation of space.

If a privately funded effort to divert this happened, it could be one of the final nails in NASAs coffin here.

Just imagine a Virgin logo on that rocket. ;)

All we need is Bruce Willis, Ben Affleck, and Crazy Eyes... Those are the key elements needed to surivive.

Oh, and throw Billy Bob Thornton in there to tell them what to do. Then, play an entire Areosmith album during the course of this adventure.

Or the scene where the crazy Russian cosmonaut somehow uses a wrench to bash the machine until it works. "American machine... Russian machine... No matter!!! Everything is made in Taiwan!!! libashes starterli THIS is how we do things in Russia!!!" with is thick Eastern European accent. Lovely movie for when you need a quick laugh. Sweet CGI stuff for a 1998 movie too. And a pretty decent score from Trevor Rabin made the movie watchable.
