Trying to keep people from posting useless things is exceedingly hard though because some people are just so stupid. No matter how many times you tell them that their post is useless they fail to see why. I pretty much gave up on reading/posting on forums because digging through all of the garbage is tedious and boring.

I think shitposting is very subjective. I'd probably select a good 75% of the posts here as shitposts.
That's just the way things go on a forum. You have to live with it.

I think forums are more of a discussion ground. Like a conversation between multiple people. With that in mind, I have to say that not everything said in a conversation is relevant to the topic nor is it contributory. Same with a forum.
I think forums are kind of like a "break from the world". Where one goes to discuss a topic of his liking, in our case it is freebie sites. Not everything is going to be 100% relevant.
I am, however, in no way promoting "shitposting". Posts that simply say "lol" or some other short meaningless phrase should indeed be avoided and not posted at all. I am just trying to prove a point that not everything will be completely relevant. And also, what's relevant to one person might not be to another and vice versa.
In short, I agree with Dr. Doom.
