hey,

i have searched the forum for other posts on the topic, but most of the posts are pretty old. i wanted to find out if anyone has recently tried to exchange a nano from anyfreegift, freepay, nuitech, etc.

did you go to the apple store? another store (best buy, circuit city, etc.)?

obviously, i don't have a receipt so i want to know the strategy of what to do.

any help would be appreciated.

thanks.

I believe Apple will give you store credit, best of luck with Best Buy, I tried taking my video iPod in from Trainn for store credit and they wouldn't without a receipt.

Take it to an apple store and they will give you store credit, thats what i did with my macbook, took about 5 minutes.

how recently did you try? from reading other posts, it seems like they are scanning in the serial numbers and not allowing unless from an apple store.

It was mid-october and they did scan my serial number and there was no problem, i just told them it was a gift ordered online so i dont have a receipt.

technically, Apple Store don't allow returns without a receipt for products thats not purchased directly from Apple. Thats what they told me when I bought my ipod in for an exchange. They made an expection and let me do it anyway.

Walmart rewards store credit.

daggoth- does walmart make a huge deal about not having a receitp?

gcy- did you return yours to the apple store in the city? did you ask for an upgrade?

yea...I took it back to the store in 5th Ave. It was the original 5 Gen ipod, traded for the newer one.

doylnea - i would like to know about de-frauding wal-mart. why can't you return something to them if they accept it.

for the record, i would gladly return it to the right store, if i could figure it out.

i got the nano from anyfreegift. they are no longer doing business. i also tried contacting them, but they are not accepting e-mails either.

if ur local walmart sells ipods, then they will take it for store credit(they just give u a GC). Tell them that u lost ur receipt and they'll take it.

ok thanks for the advice but nothing has worked. i went to two apple stores and was told twice, if it wasn't bought at apple, they can't take it back.

wal-mart refused and target did as well. i won't do best buy. i am left with circuit city or trying to sell it on ebay.

i just don't get it. it's brand new, never opened. really pissing me off.

Well think about it

Every store gets ipods in bulk from a vendor (apple) and they dont pay the $200 for them and then sell them for $200, that would be silly. They probably get them for 150 a piece or something (correct me if im wrong) and then sell them for $200, making a profit.

If they just took an ipod from a different place for $200 and then went to sell it for $200, then they are not going to be making a profit and it wouldnt be in their best business benefit to do this, its pointless.

Correct me if Im wrong though but I think that's how it works.

point is understood and it's valid.

however, the place that accepts it would be making money twice. they would have an additional ipod to sell at $200 when they paid nothing to get it ($200 profit) and the other part would be that they would be making the difference between the nano and whatever else i purchase.

to me, that seems to be win-win

But they would have to pay you or give you store credit in exchange for the nano, so the two would cancel eachother out. Sure they would make a little profit off a case or and itrip that you might buy but its not that big of a profit.

I dont know, i guess it does depend on the corporation. Goodluck though getting rid of it.

You have to be shameless about it. Who do you see getting refunds with lost reciepts? Ugly old ladies who have have lost the will to hang on to their self-image. They don't care, they'd argue until they are forcefully escorted out of the store.

Anyways, Apple stores WILL accept returns without a reciept. Why? They are the manufacturers, they have data on ALL Apple purchases. IF THOSE DUMB CLERKS WON'T GIVE YOU A REFUND, ASK TO SPEAK WITH THE MANAGER. I am sure they will help you look up the serial number and process a refund (in store credit) for you. They will ask you where you got it, then just tell them my favorite thing to say "my mother was a guest audience on Oprah, and Oprah gave every single audience member an iPod".

Is the risk worth the reward?

badlands23

22-12-2006 06:39:08

what risk? if they don't accept it, i have/had the nano to try to sell on ebay. either way, i should come out ahead. i did. this is a cautionary tale for people who think they can get stuff for free and trade up or exchange it at apple. just not true. unless your shameless.

wow, such a quick retort.

i was not referring to myself when i quoted the "unless your shameless" line. that was from a previous posting.

i simply stated that i received it as a gift and if they could offer store credit. i didn't have a receipt. if they didn't offer a store credit, i would have moved on. i never once complained or asked to see a manager. i simply took them at their word and moved on.
