We have just finished reading the Canterbury Tales in my British Literature class. I have to now write a short story (my own modern day version of a Canterbury Tale) but poke fun at a certain occupation, like Chaucer poked fun at different groups of people in his time. I am writing the tale as a surgeon and am poking fun at a teacher. Any ideas of what to do for this story? Thanks

You sure you want our help? The further you hinder your imagination, the more boring it will get.

i have a few ideas of quirks of teachers that i could point out, but i don't really have any idea for a storyline, characters, etc.

So you basically have to do something like the Miller and Reeve stories?

Try finding two occupations that link to each other like the miller and reeve. Then figure something out from there I guess. shrug

Yeah. There aren't any restrictions, we just have to make fun of the assigned people (teachers, for me).

how about a surgeon poking fun of a nurse, or vise versa.

That has lots of room to work with.

I'm guessing your teacher looking for a little irony and wit in the story, like the original Canterbury Tales, so what immediately comes to mind is finding irony in the occupation of teaching. How about the idea that teachers are trying to convey knowledge to others when they might not have it themselves?
