[quoteb6e212c362]Normally we’re devoted to entertainment news, but Saturday you'll want to look towards those “other” stars – the ones in the sky. With a little luck, you might see something you’ll remember for the rest of your life.
The circumstances are right for a strong Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) display Saturday, December 9th, 2006.
On December 5th a large solar flare erupted at 535 EST and another, more earth-directed flare, occurred on the 6th (both emanating from "sunspot 930"). The flare's charged particles are about to hit everyone’s favorite planet -- with the bulk most likely now hitting on Saturday. (Originally the University of Alaska predicted the larger storm would hit Friday night.)
Those particles (electrons and protons) are dragged into the earth’s magnetic field at the poles. When they hit the upper atmosphere, some of the energy is transformed into light. The light can dance beautifully, changing in color and size with the intensity of the storm -- creating the Northern Lights. [/quoteb6e212c362]
I'm really sure what the status of this is.. I'm looking for a forum with people talking about it so i know if it's happening or not. If anyone has info post it

[ie39e5ba7a3]Supposedly[/ie39e5ba7a3], our kids, and/or grandkids will see aurora all over the earth when the magnetic poles flip. They'll probably get skin cancer too, but, they'll have something pretty to look at. )

I've been in Alaska for only a year. There was one that happened while I was here, but no one told me about it so I missed out on it... Not this time though.

If you live north enough, don't you see it at some intensity year round?

Yeah, I thought you could see it in Alaska year round hmmm. Must be a common misconception.

Well, maybe you can if you live [i98e4abe51e]very[/i98e4abe51e] far north?
No Northern Lights. But that might be because it was very cloudy. I was a bit disappointed, I really wanted to experience them for the first time.

I don't think there is a pattern or "schedule" to the Northern Lights. It all depends on when solar flares occur, here, read-up

There are also some awesome pictures on that page for the lazy-inclined wink

So can you see the northern lights from the windows in your igloo?? Do your igloos even have windows???
I'll bet if they did have windows then the barking of your sled dogs would keeps you up all night.
Actually my friends parents were in Alaska earlier this year. They said it was almost 80 degrees where they were.

Fucking A. I'm sick of eating whale blubber every day.
The dogs do keep me up at night, but not as much as that penguin I have tied up in the backyard.
