I want a nice knife for a decent price for xmas. The problem is, that I dont know anything about knives at all. I know kershaw is a good brand but thats about it. I need a knife for mostly opening boxes and packages, normal everyday use, nothing more. it needs to be very small (about a 2" blade) and folding, as well as be legal in CA. It also needs to be fairly durable and a good MFG warranty would be great. Any suggestions?

it seems pretty solid but I still need something smaller than that, I need to be able to use it at work to open boxes without freaking co workers and customers out.

I got a switchblade from Mexico... it serves me well. It's fun to just sit there and flip it open.

but I dont think anyone in my fam is going to drive 400+ miles to mexico to get me a switchblade for xmas, plus a switchblade has to be less than 2" to be legal in CA and those are hard to find.

Can anyone suggest a good knife for killing things?
Seriously though, I picked up a switchblade in Costa Rica, and it's a lot of fun as well. I don't use it for anything more than opening letters, but I feel tough doin' it nonetheless.

I am really liking the benchmade benchmite auto switchblade but some retailers have it for 25-35$ whereas others have it for 85-135$ I was wondering what the difference was, maybe now you guys could help me find the best value on an automatic switchblade for the benchmade benchmite.
why not just go with a standard box cutter? or if u want something fancier, maybe something like this?

whatever you do, just do NOT make it Cutco.

I would go with a Case knife. I used to have one that I used for opening boxes on the job. Case are lightweight and small but very sharp and reliable. There's one for $40 bucks on here that I really like.

I used to carry one of these before TSA took it out of checked bag at the airport...(which really f-ing) pissed me off.
It folds up to 2.5 inches or so, is very slim, but the blade locks in place (when it's open), but you can still open it with just your thumb. I used to use it camping, at work, and was very handy. It was very easy to keep sharp as well.

These knives are very durable, and the price is great. Works great for boxes and normal use.
