[b8d9eebe550]Revised[/b8d9eebe550]

I was trying to do a raffle for my last two 20gb systems. I was tired of doing ebay, plus I know I won't get much off there. I had in mind a raffle. $20 a ticket, and you have a 1/100 chance of winning a PS3 20gb system (with a 60gb hard drive upgrade) or a PS3 20gb system with Resistance.

Now this is just an idea right now, but would anyone here be interested? You'll be entered for both systems, meaning there will be two raffles with the cost of one ticket. You could possibly win both with your ONE ticket..

And yea the obvious thing I should be doing is ebaying them, but lately they've been selling like crap and I am tired of Nigerians and 0 feedback people winning my auctions.

clearly just an idea I'm throwing around, would anyone be interested in partaking?

so you are giving away both PS3's for $1000 which is lower than cost? Why not just sell them at cost?

no, i am selling 100 tickets at $20 = $2000.

I'm obviously profiting off this, I didn't say I wasn't going to be. But if there were enough interested people who wanted to take a chance and win one for $20, and they'd have two chances.

I'd be interested, but you'd have to send the PS3s to an admin or something because you have no TR and just a few posts /

if you win the first you will still be entered in the second raffle. meaning 1 $20 ticket would be worth 2 PS3s. The chances of winning both are 1/100. The chances of winning 1 is 1/50.

The chance of winning both isn't 1/100.. i dont think? isn't it 1/50 li 1/50 = 1/2500?

Could be, I don't know I stopped taking math after high school. I'll edit the post to remove the 1/100

I edited the first post accordingly.

Too much money for not good enough odds.

Maybe for $15/ticket.

I would rather do $10 for one PS3 20 GB. Good idea though. Feel like steeling your idea! lol

yea, except each raffle actually has a 1/100 chance... meaning something like 1/10000 to win both? may be off on that figure... but the odds are against you... i'd participate if they were sent to a mod first...

Oh yeah, I thought he was only selling 50 tickets.

hehehhehe

02-12-2006 15:10:07

I'd be in too if the units are sent to a mod and the picks are done so they are definitely random. 85 tickets would be fairer too as he still profits more than ebay even after all the shipping costs (to mod and to winners). Or lower the ticket price to $17.

Right now, the chance of winning one through bettercandy is 1/100 + 1/100 = 1/50 for one ticket

Or actually, if we wanted to, we can just do a cash raffle so the winner can just go and buy one off ebay. $10 tickets x 65 to 75 ought to cover it. That way, no one is making a lot of money off of us.

Ok...the chance of winning 1 in the first drawing

1/100

The Chance of winning 1 in the second drawing

1/100

The chance of winning 1 in either drawing

1/100+ 1/100 = 2/100 = 1/50

The chance of winning both

1/100 x 1/100 = 1/10000

Will you sell multiple tix to one person?

I was thinking, to buy tickets i could post a listing on ebay and post the link here. I believe theres a way to make it so that only people i select can buy a ticket. I will set the quantity at 100. If i get a majority of users from this site to buy one, I will post the owners of a ticket publicly, so that only one of those people can win, so there is not controversy.

...i might do it at $15 at ticket...

wouldnt it be easier if the mod just took the money instead, betterthancandy then sends out the item, and mod pays betterthacncandy when item is received.

$20 for a 1 in 100 chance isn't so great, hack I'll do a $25 for 50 tickets for my 60gb system.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned it already, but aren't there legal complications and possible ramifications for having online raffles, lotteries without a license or permit?

Remember we were going to have people donate $1 or $2 and then every week, a name would be chosen out of a a hat and all the money would go to them? Then we'd start again for the next week. Since everyone is from a different state, laws are different. Here's the original idea.

If you're serious about this and interested in taking part, please read this.

Those of you who said that the chances of winning both are 1/10000 are correct, btw. When figuring out the odds of two things BOTH happening where the outcome of the second is not dependent on the outcome of the first you do this

( Probability of A happening in step 1 ) x ( Probability of B happening in step 2 ).

For example, if the probabily of it raining frogs today is 40% (0.4) and the probability of the tag on your sweater sticking out all day showing that world that you shop at Walmart is 20% (0.2), then the probability that you look like a dork AND smell like pondscum today is 0.4 x 0.2 = 0.08 = 8%.
