I've never really needed a radar detector, but it's $45 shipped... I have a few questions though. I thought that radar detectors were a joke because everyone uses lasers, and laser detectors are a joke becuase the second your detector goes off the laser has already clocked your speed. Do you think this thing is any good?

probably crap

Generally with radar detectors you get what you pay for.

Think of it as a prostitute. You know the good ones cost $3,000, and the shitty ones cost about $500. So from shit to good it's 15. A good radar detector is probably somewhere around $250, so you figure a shit one would be about $50. This one cost $45......

Enough said.

valentine 1 for the win my good man save ur pennies by not buying crap detectors and get the v1.

they warn u when someone else gets hit with a laser allowing u to slow down.

or u can combo with a jammer and etc

The lower the cost, the lower the range and reading purity. My suggestion is before you do an impulse buy is to do some research on the topic

tyler dam ur avatar is big.

i mean if the laser detector is used properly it will save you alot of money.

it wont save your ass when you got pulled over for something stupid and they see a detector they will bust you balls.

when you getpulled over throw your detector under the seat.

i had my v1 in my dc2 integra where the clock was hardwired it was so stealth and didnt have to deal with theft of the v1.

Jay-Z, nice, Doylnea. Anyhow, I wouldn't buy it but then again I don't see the point of buying a V1 when they are so expensive? I mean unless you street race or something. If you are just the daily driver who likes to speed then you will save more money just paying the occasional ticket or two than buying that thing. But I guess a radar is also good if you have gotten tickets in the past and you are about to have your license revoked or something.

Kidd

30-11-2006 20:00:03

dude insurance premiums are RAPE

tickets are about 200-300 plus extra 300 for the next 500 years thats on your first speeding ticket when you have alot of points bro it just gets more and more expensive each time to the point insurance will rape you so hard that you cant afford to drive.

30-11-2006 20:02:47

I want a radar detector for Christmas, but my parents won't buy me one.

They say I shouldn't be speeding anyway, even though they both do, my dad in particular.

Hmm, speeding tickets where you live must be a lot different than where I live. The tickets aren't half that much and I've never even heard of the insurance increasing that much here.

welcome to new york a no fault insurance state (

also those estimates are based upon age they will be higher if your under 23

tyler ask for money then buy it for urself ;)

if they pay for insurance tell them it is like a double gift with no increasing insurance rates.

I bought a V1 recently - got a good deal on a v1 1.8 on eBay. I drive about 250 miles per weekend. I figured for the actual cost of one speeding ticket, investing in a V1 that would hopefully make me aware of the potential for tickets was a reasonable investment. As Kidd wrote, insurance premiums are dependent on the number of moving violations you've received. Even if the speeding ticket is $120, insurance premiums on a new expensive sports car could increase by $200 per ticket.

Plus, the V1 keeps me safe from accidents up ahead ;) Yea, that's it, when there is police activity because of an accident, they all turn on their radar to alert drivers to the accident...

If i remember correctly i told tyler to do the same and he had already told his parents that he was going to buy one with his own money and i think they said that they would take his car away.

yep it owns is that 1.8 the newer version or a little older.

how much did you pay?

anyways im on an insurance with a couple "sports cars" as the insurance loves to call them.

i can get out of many speeding tickets becuase of connections with state troppers but the feeling of being ticketed sucks!

honda s2k ( rape insurance rwd convertible)
civic si ( many teens are flipping and crashing them causing me to have bad rates)
acura rdx( dads main car but its factory turbo'd)
mom has lower insurance on her bmw but my dad sold the beamer to get the rdx and his insurance went up just a bit.

multiple houses.

i have three houses( not to sound snobby but they are all being rented out and they are multiple family homes used purely for profit and we live in a single family) in the suburbs and an apartment that weve owned in the city for a while.

i usually use the train to commute to the city.

otherwise i live in bronxville for most of the day

Here's an idea for ya...

My dad was against me getting a radar detector, and he pays for my insurance so he could have done that thing, but he didn't want me to get one, anyways, I bought the Whistler Fuzion, installed it where the clock used to be on the dash in my Chrysler 300M, then when my dad took my car to get pizza one night, he asked what the deal with the new clock thingy was in my car, I told him it was a radar detector that I got as a freebie shrug he didn't worry about it sin'ce I didn't pay for it... that one might work for you, and if they watch your cards then custom order one...

http//www.radarbusters.com/

There is a good site about them, the Valentine 1 isn't ranked the best out there... I bought one that has 4 stars because it was conceiled and only $200... Radar detectors work great but won't always keep you from getting a ticket... Police don't drive with detectors on, and they flip it on and can get a read off of your vehicle within 2 seconds... so you have 2 seconds to hit your breaks and get slowed down... usually I drive 85-90 on interstate (70 speed limit), i slow down with lots of traffic in the other side, on 2 lane highways (65 speed limit) I drive 90-95 and then slow down to 85 when there are cars coming...

You just can't depend on it always getting a signal in time, and always have to be alert for cops... I'll slow down a lot if i see a car that I think has a chance of being a cop...
