I was trying to "print screen" while watching an mpeg because there was a lamp in the background that my gf said she wanted for our new condo.

BUT.... everytime i pasted the printed screen, it had everything, however a black square in place of the mpeg section. I tried "tricking" it by clicking off the media player; no luck. I tried having another window over it, still no luck.

It shows up on the paste, but not when you save it. And if you move the pasted screen up and down, the video portion does not move with the rest. Not that it matters, because the video area does not save anyway.

I tried pasting it to ms paint then, no luck.

Anyone know what's going on here??

A save file dialog should come up. You have to use wmp.

Print Screen doesn't work for video, it only works for GDI window data. Nearly all video players display video in an overlay buffer that cannot be captured with Print Screen. You have to use your video player's frame grabber feature (if it has one). As others said, use WMP or VLC or some other player that lets you grab frames.

Open the file in VirtualDub; one of the options in the Edit or View menu is "capture screen" or something similar.

go to the media player settings, advanced, and turn off overlays.

Now hit print screen and copy paste as you wish!

Thanks, +karma for the offer. However, the lamp happens to be in a not so nice video, so i want to try and figure this out myself.

did this and still did not work (

It does the strangest thing when i paste and then scroll the pic up and down. Even when i copy and paste to ms paint what i orginally copied and pasted, it does the same thing and saves a black square in place of the video area.
