I have stuff that I want to sell on ebay but I dont really understand how you would get the shipping cost for each individual item. This is the only thing keeping my from selling stuff on ebay. Im guessing that you would need to weigh it but is there anyway to know without going to the post office every time?

When I sell stuff on eBay, I usually look at the other items like mine to find out what kind of prices and also the average shipping cost.

I'm pretty sure that if you can find out the weight of the final shipping package, you can estimate your costs on the USPS website.

This might help http//pages.ebay.com/services/buyandsell/shippingcenter7.html ebay allows you to add a shipping calculator to auctions. You just enter weight and it figures out cost. Most sellers add a little weight to cover handling.

use shipping to cover your paypal and ebay fees, plus the actual cost of shipping. unethical but so is ebay.

They usually give averages when you are listing your auction.

I usually take the average and round it to the nearest $5, ie if it's $12.34 for the average cost, I just make it $15.

I use this for USPS.

and with this UPS calculator you can even put in the dimensions of the box.

i used to use a people scale to measure my stuff and add 2 more pounds just to be safe

and now I just used my electronic scale

If you want to print postage at home (with paypal, for example) or want to know the weight before you list, you really need a weight scale unless you're sending something standard like a DVD or CD (whose shipping weight can be googled pretty easily). I used to ask a nearby deli to weigh some packages for me when I didn't have a scale.

You can go here and register with the USPS and they'll send you these stack and weigh thingamajigs for free that will let you weigh up to 6 lbs (in 1 lb. increments). Just knowing the weight in 1 lb. increments should be good enough for most things you sell on ebay.

Otherwise, take a guess at the weight and pad the calculated shipping price a little so you don't underestimate, and ship it from the PO.
