Anyone else love Lupe Fiasco's album Food and Liquor? Its my 3rd candidate for hip-hop album of the year, along with the Roots and Gnarles (excluding JT because i wouldn't consider him hip-hop). His sound is so refreshing. A lot of soulful 70's sounds and very down to earth lyrics. While most rappers are so busy discussing which bitches they'll hit and how big their rims are, he's talking about skateboarding, poverty, and growing up without a father. He gets help from Kanye, Pharrell, Jay-z, Jill Scott, and others. Get it!

[quote88a57276f1]He came back
In the same suit that he was buried in
Similar to the one his grand father was married in
Yes... he was still fresh to death
bling, two ear-rings, a chain laying on his chest
He still had it cuz they couldn't find it
And the bullets from his enemies sat like two inches behind it
smelled the Hennesy from when his niggas got reminded
and poured out liquor in his memory, he didn't mind it, But...
He couldn't sip it fast enough
So the liquor was just filling the casket up
floating down by his feet was the letter from his sister
Second Grade hand-writing simply read "I miss ya"
Suit jacket pocket held his baby daughter's picture
Right next to it one of his man's stuck a swisher
He had a notion as he laid there soaking
Saw that the latch was broken, he kicked his casket open
and he... [/quote88a57276f1]

I like this album as well. I like all the songs on it but currently Kick Push II is a big one for me.

Daydreamin is amazing...Jill Scott makes that song so smooth...

[quoted425e1e7fc]"Now come on everybody, let's make cocaine cool, we need a few more half-naked women up in the pool...and hold this Mac 10 that's all covered in jewels and can you please put your titties closer to the 22's...And where's the champagne, we need champagne, now look as hard as you can with this blunt in your hand...and now hold up your chain, slow motion through the flames, now cue the smoke machine and the simulated rain..."[/quoted425e1e7fc]

Wow, glad to see people with good taste. You guys seem awfully familiar. huh

Is he on the radio in your areas? I would've never even heard about him if I hadn't heard a snippet about him on NPR.

He gets played on the radio every once and a while over here, but not as often as the usual stuff.

Just heard some of his stuff from my friend. I really liked Daydreamin and most of the others.

My friend also went to see him at Morongo last week, he has a vid of the night I'll see if I can get my hands on it.

Speaking of great hip-hop artists, just saw a Gap commercial featuring Common. "Peace, love, and Gap." Not sure how I feel about that...

Yea, Common's doing some interesting things...

He's gonna be in this movie http//imdb.com/title/tt0475394/trailers-screenplay-E30008-10-2

He also has a song at the end of this trailer

Common has done such great work that I'll cut him some slack for making a few commercials and movies. I'd rather that than see him go the way of DMX.

I'll check out Lupe's work.

I love Lupe Fiasco, he has that humurous sarcasm. The best track in the CD is Hurt Me Soul and American Terrorist.

Common is also another one of the refreshing artists. Both from Chicago, have something in common with me there.

But Common talks about females all the time in his songs. And he was with Erykah Badu.

lol @ Eminem even being decent now. Dude has to have the record for going from great to bad the fastest (maybe Canibus). His last album was yuuukkk. And everything he produces turns ugly (see 2Pac/Biggie - running).
