I'm looking into buying a paintball gun or getting one for christmas and was wondering whatd be the best type to get for less than $150.. I know the Tippman 98 is supposed to be a great gun if you change the stock barrel for a longer one, any other suggestions?

I wouldn't call the 98 a great gun, but you can beat the hell out of it and it'll still work.

I use a Kingmann Spyder Rodeo with a Delrin Anti-Chop bolt, and I've only had problems when using cheap paint in the rain/cold.

by great, i meant with a few modifications you could have no problem playing woodsball with it.. but i understand what you mean..

i just found a forum and a lot of people mention the spyder imagine... it looks nice, i havent found much in terms of comparing it to other markers though

erm, not imagine... pilot

I don't know much about the pilot other than that it's an electronic marker, and I play mostly woodsball so I didn't really feel like paying the extra money for a feature that wasn't going to help a great amount shrug

EDIT www.pbreview.com is a good place to find reviews on paintball equipment

Well IMO don't buy anything new you can get a huge package deal on ebay for about 150 Tippman 98 is by far a great gun. There's so much you can do to it to make it better. I remember when i used to play i upgraded my tippman with a double trigger lapco barrel auto cocker "response trigger" made the gun a automatic you could change the speeds of how fast you wanted it to shoot. There's just so much you can do very worth the buy.

Too bad the RT isn't allowed at paintball places. It's fine for woodsball, but kind of lame if none of the other players have it and you are off firing so much.

I plan on getting a package deal of either the M98C or the pilot on ebay, it costs about $20 more for just about everything i'd need to get started.. And I'll set aside money for a new barrel and trigger for whichever I choose... and depending on the gun, probably a force feed hopper..

You won't be firing fast enough on a 98custom to warrant buying a feeding hopper.

I would recommend staying away from spyders.

My setup currently is,

Tippman 98 custom
Super R/T
Dye Ultra Lite Barrel
BSI Blade Trigger
Halo TSA Frontman LCD hopper

I'm using CO2 right now but i'm switching it to air before the next time I play. It works really well for woodsball and usually (kinda depends on what your comp is using) isn't bad for speedball. The olny problem its having is that the super R/T out shoots the TSA from time to time cousing it to chop. To fix this i'm going to convert it back to the regular response trigger wich it didn't seem to have any problems with. The super response trigger is nice but the regular R/T is usually plenty fast for woodsball and dosen't require a super fast hopper.

The first time I played paintball, I got shot directly on the asshole by a member of my own team who was crawling behind me. OUCH!!!

Poor quality, not very upgradeable. Everytime I go paint balling theres atleast one spyder chopping like crazy or just broken down. Not to mention that if your going to buy a non-electric spyder than you mine as well buy a tippmann for around the same price. If you plan on buying an electric spyder than an ION is considerably better for about the same price.

I roll with the electra. Very fast. I'd recomend sypder v3. That looks like a pretty sick gun.

Autococker with e-blade trigger that i adjusted so sensitive that the recoil of the shot makes it shoot again and again. basicly autofire but you dont need to hold the trigger.lol

Really? I've seen more broken down IONs than I have spyders. And as for chopping, my Rodeo only does that when I'm using really cheap paint when it's cold and wet, and most people have problems under those conditions. I have yet to have had trouble finding an upgrade that I've wanted, and there are no problems with the quality, unless you get one of the shitty, stripped-down verions that Wal-Mart sells, where EVERYTHING is low quality.

As far as the spyders go with chopping, the reviews ive read on the one im looking into, the Pilot are all great... as long as you ahve an electronic hopper and invest in the ACS, you should be fine.... It has its issues on full auto, but i'd expect that...

also, i wasnt goign to get an electronic hopper if i got a tippman, gravity feeds the way to go there..

Depends on what you do to your tippmann... If you R/T it you'll have a blender.

don't buy a tippman or a spyder, go ahead and be like EVERYBODY else at your field and buy an ion.
if you want I have a spyder xtra I could sell you for cheap, with mask and hopper and j&j ceramic barrel. Hell I even have some paint you could have.

Whats the deal with Ions? They don't seem special. No Rocking Trigger, or anything amazing like that.
