Have any of you guys ever used any remote pc control programs? I have seen ones that use java but they are very laggy. Anyone have any better ones that they have had experience with or have seen? Do the better programs cost money?

Thanks in advance for the help.

I absolutely love Logmein.com. Client install is simple, and remote PC control is web-based. You can't game on the remote PC obviously, but I've found it more than adequate for running IM clients and surfing the web.

I just use windows messenger...
Theres a button that says "control pc" and if the person on the other side accepts you're good to go.

However it DOES require one person to be on each computer at the time.

http//ultravnc.sourceforge.net/
http//www.tightvnc.com/

I used PCAnywhere at work for many years and got used to that program. However, I made the switch to TightVNC with no problem (I need to access a DIY PVR on my home network). I seem to remember trying out UltraVNC as well and thinking they were almost the same.

Best part They're both FREE!

Any of the VNC flavors for Windows (I use TightVNC).

FreeNX for Linux. NX blows VNC away in performance, but unfortunately the Windows server isn't free.

XP includes Remote Desktop, but the client only comes with XP Pro. I think there are some free rdesktop clients (I know there are for Linux, not sure about Windows).

Thanks for all of the suggestions guys, I have a lot to look in to.

Another question-I am not saying I would do this- but are any of these programs actually good enough to play games on? I know ones like logmein are not but what about radmin or others?

Again, thanks for the help.

You aren't going to be able to play anything that needs FPS over these...

Ok, thanks for the quick response.

That wasnt going to be my reason for using one anyway, but I was just curious.

Not if you are connecting from outside your network. The ipconfig IP is an internal IP and is probably 192.168.x.x. Go to http//ipmonkey.com and find your external IP. You also might need to forward ports on your router to allow the TCP packets...
