holy crap.. did they have enough PS3s for all those people? The lines here will be pretty short, right? Because people won't wait if they aren't guaranteed a system.

PS3 Expensive, hard to make games for(Stupid BluRay shit) so no good game developers/companies will make games = Console with a few shitty games. I got the Wii preordered and my 360 shipped today(Finally decided to order one), I get every system all the time, but no way I'm getting the PS3. Also, sony says they spend more money building one than they sell it for, meaning the price will NEVER drop.

They probably took some old broken returned PS2 controllers and put some $5 wireless crap in them and re-sold them with the PS3 lol

That happens with EVERY console gaming system. They make up that loss with higher game prices.

That's just because people KNOW they can make a profit selling this on eBay.

Or MAYBE Sony will develop more efficient means of producing the PS3, eh?

Microsoft and Sony know they will be taking big losses in the first few years.

But remember both companies foresee that the 360 and PS3 will be the prime gaming systems for the next decade.

probably its because Japanese love Sony more than Microsoft and besides Sony is a Japanese product.

I'm sorry, but has to be one of the most mis-informed posts I've read lately.

1. Sony console games have always managed to outsell any other console, period. Sony's consoles and their games are the biggest sellers by a wide margin -- nearly 5 times as many PS2 consoles have shipped than XBOX1. Add in the PSone sales on the Sony side and the 360 sales on the Microsoft side, and you're talking about a 10x advantage for Sony over Microsoft for their last 2 consoles. And given the technological advantages of the PS3 -- development complexities notwithstanding -- I don't think the PS3 will be any different. There will be TONS of games, more than for the 360 I predict, just based upon Sony console history and the fact that once developers get into the groove of coding for the PS3, things will go much faster. The PS3 technology blows the 360 away in so many ways it isn't even funny, especially when you consider a 360 + the $200 HD-DVD add-on adds up to the cost of a PS3 with the included Blu-Ray. For the same $600 you get MUCH more power and capability. Not only that, but the PS3 is supposed to be backwards compatible with a much larger percentage of PSone and PS2 games, as opposed to the 360's limited compatibility with XBOX1 games.

2. That "Blu-Ray shit" isn't difficult to make games for. Blu-Ray is technologically superior to HD-DVD as well, but neither are really providing any benefits for movies today. However that is not true for data! They both rock for data capacity, and Blu-Ray has the edge, so I'm not sure where you're coming from with your BR diss.

3. As has been said, ALL gaming consoles are sold at a loss. This has been true at least since the PS1 and Nintendo 64, if not earlier.

I remember seeing on one of the sample boxes that it weighed 17 pounds. I assume that's including wires and controller and such. I just need to know how much it will cost to ship.

Dmorris, constructive posts, But i'd like to point out that not ALL gaming consoles are sold at a loss. Nintendo came out openly and said they were making money on Gamecube at launch and now I believe. Also, at this point I'm fairly sure ALL 3 of the consoles [xbox/ps2/gc] are making money due to being in production so long. [Scales of market/Learning more efficient production [Forgot the term for it <]. At first, no doubt Xbox / Ps2 lost money.
PS3 Input Weak launch games, but great games coming out for it... Metal Gear solid 4 / Final Fantasy 13. Those are the two im looking foeward to.

Well, I should have clarified to say "at launch," but I thought that was assumed. My bad. I think several others have pointed out that once a console has been produced for awhile, manufacturing processes and components become cheaper and most do start to turn a profit. But not for awhile, typically.

Nintendo has always been somewhat unique in the console business. Their consoles are usually never "state-of-the-art" compared to their competition (except for maybe the N64, which I remember blowing away everybody when it came out, but then again their only real competition at the time was Sega). They serve a very loyal and almost niche gaming market, and don't try to do all the entertainment/convergence stuff that Microsoft and Sony are after -- they just play games. The GameCube was nice, but I don't consider it a really high-end piece of hardware -- it certainly didn't make the waves that PS2, XBOX, 360, and PS3 made. Even the Wii doesn't seem to be on-par with the 360 and certainly not the PS3, but that's not what they were aiming for -- they have a different market. So it wouldn't surprise me that they could keep costs down enough to turn a profit at or near launch on the hardware, although I think I'll be a little surprised if they can launch Wii at a profit.
