Okay, we know A4F is down but we want to warn everybody to not log onto A4F for the moment. Someone got through a security hole and put a virus on the site so please do not access Anything4Free and if you have at all in the past 8 hours I would recommend doing a virus scan to be safe. I will provide updates when possible but as it looks now we may have to take down the site completely for the night but as of yet that's not set in stone.

I dont think you should go on it at all. If you read my other thread, i created a thread when it got hacked, but a few mins later it came back up. Thats why TSJ said 'it works for me'...then this update came that it got hacked and it came down again.

Oh, well alot of admin/mods are online on the site. What is the best course of action against the virus? Should we change passwords?

WOW.... I GOT FUCKED!

Every .exeurl==http://=http:///url file on my entire computer was infected, AVG couldnt remove them all because some were critical windows files... I am using my laptop now while trying to fix my comp, but it looks like just about all my work from the past 2 or 3 years is all gone...

Anyone have any suggestion of how I can get things back up and running... I formatted, but still stuff on my removable drive (?I tried to do some backup) got infected, as well as my D drive...

PLEASE HELP ME... ive never had serious virus trouble before, so I dont really know where to start (

Thanks!!!

Will Windows even boot?

Daggoth

03-11-2006 22:02:20

I just ran AVG-Free and had only one infected file, which I deleted. So what was it? Luck of the draw to see who was screwed and who wasn't?

Well, I seem to have gotten all my stuff back but my bookmarks.... thing is, that is probably one of the most important files on my comp... any suggestions on an easy way to get back deleted files?

Windows would boot, but there were just way too many problems, a lot of files I had were infected, but after the format and an AVG sweep before I ran anything seemed to clean it up....

now, what precautions should I take before daring to venture back to A4F? D

If this helps at all, I think the viruses were downloaded through the advertisements on the forums page.

If I'm right, people who used Firefox with Adblock should not have been affected whereas people who used IE should have been.

That's what happened to me 2 nights ago. I used IE and got infected with the trojan virus which were .htmurl==http://=http:///url and .wmfurl==http://=http:///url files (Advertisement files)

I started to use Firefox after that and haven't been affected while visiting a4f last night.

Not true, for me atleast. I have Adblock and I'm on a Mac and it still continued to download that .wmfurl==http://=http:///url file three times and freeze up my browser. The download/file was in the iframe at the bottom of the source page but still was there somehow after we removed it from it from the script. We have however, found something to fix it but if you continue to see problems please contact me or another staff member at A4F. So things should be back to normal, I'd recommend changing your password to be safe because we don't know what all this virus did besides crashing browsers and etc.

See this announcement for details or if you have to report something

www.ewido.net (INCREDIBLE) You can run an online scan or download. Saved my ass many a-times

http//www.safer-networking.org- I Havent used Spybot latley, but it still is a great free program

http//free.grisoft.com/doc/1 (Virus and Spyware) AVG Is a great program, it got rid of the infected files and the ones It didnt get rid of, It located them and I manually removed them...

Ad-Aware SE Personal- Great little program...
