So I have the Panasonic 42" EDTV most people recieved that is 480p.

Now for those of you that have it hooked up to a Xbox 360, what display setting did you choose??? How is both you 360 and plasma setup. I ask because i went into the 360 display settings and mine was set to 480p. I chose 1080i and it displayed. Will this hurt my tv?

No, your tv scales it to 480p (it should say in the specs that it accepts 720p and 1080i). I would think that less scaling the better, so try 480p output on your 360 to see if the image is the best that way.

p.s. This should be in the tech section.

Whoops. Sorry. So you think it would be better setting my 360 to 480p rather than 720P

Just try it. Normally, unnecessary downscaling degrades the image so I would think 480p would be best but you never know. It might not make much difference in the end.

I have the same tv and I have it set to 480p.

I have a question to add to this though. Would this tv benefit from an hd Dish satellite receiver over a standard one?

Well, I don't have this TV but I hear Panasonic ED plasmas do a great job with HD signals so I would say yes.

I've seen deals where they offered a free upgrade to an hd receiver. I was thinking about doing that and picking up an hd antenna.

Definitely get it, that's a no-brainer.

480p is still a lot better than standard definition...i'd get the hdtv receiver if i were you...i have the same plasma and my 360 is also set to 480p.

While my 360 is hooked up to my 60" SXRD at 1080i (drool), I do have an HD DVR connected to the Panasonic EDTV Plasma in the bedrooom at 480p. The Panny looks quite good with HD content despite its limited resolution.
