I was browsing MTV.com (yeah it's a weird site to find it on). I don't frequent MTV.com, I was just looking for a certain video. Anyway, I came across these two videos on sperm banks (at first I thought it was a joke). It was pretty crazy how they said a donor supposedly has 45 kids that he doesn't even know. Think about them all trying to track you down 20 years down the road to know who you are.

I never really thought about the long term effects that these sperm banks may be causing. Watch the videos and see for yourself. There's a second one right after the first that should load. It must have felt extremely weird (yet exciting) to meet your siblings that were also born from a donor many years later.

What do you guys think? Oh, and I know these are videos but I think this deserves it's own thread since it's more of an in depth type thing to discuss rather than being solely entertainment.

Yeah threads that are bout disussing something with links to videos are fine, it's just posting video's for people's entertainment that should be in the sticky.

The money is very good, but I don't think I could do it. I'd want to play a role in the kids' upbringing, and I wouldn't know how to build a relationship with them when they tracked me down 20 years later--or, if I decided not to let them track me down, I'd feel guilty for not letting them meet their biological father.

So does anyone here actually go to sperm banks..? Im seriously considering doing this im healthy Umm tall even though I have no clue what ilabk ment but $65 is alot and if they were not alowed to track me down I wouldn't care...even though it would be neat to see how many kids you really have...I would definatly do this if there was a place around here...

You must be at least 5'11" to donate; almost all mothers-to-be ask for tall donors.

I'm 16 and I'm 5'8"; I'm actually the tallest person from both sides of the family as many generations back as they can remember.

It's $65 for "acceptable specimen" which would be almost all of them if you've already been screened and tested and approved. You do it 2-3 times a week for a year so it can really add up.

So 3 x $65 = $195 a week (assuming they accept it, which in most cases they do unless some certain thing is wrong).

$195 a week isn't bad, especially since college kids need the money. They also give you free movie tickets and meals.

When you donate, I believe lotions and such are prohibited.

I guess you just go to a cryogenics bank, apply for it by filling out some applications and giving some of your background health info, then they'll contact you about it and see if you're up for it.

You have to be healthy of course.

I would probably do it if I was older and there was a cryogenic bank around. It's helping people and I'd probably need the money... shrug
