Ok, I'm as excited as everyone else is about the PS3. It has Blu-ray discs. From what I understand, Blu-Ray is just discs that can hold more stuff. This is obviously useful for video games, but what about movies? Is the only benefit from Blu-Ray tha the Extras aren't on a separate disc? Does Blu-Ray increase the picture like HD? Do you need a Blu-Ray TV like HD? Anybody an expert on this kind of stuff?

Again, that talks about disc capacity. Is there anything related to clearer picture like HD?

You obviously have a problem with reading comprehension... The first sentence

[quotee638263fbf]The Blu-ray Disc or BD is a high-density optical disc format designed for storage of [be638263fbf]high-definition video and data[/be638263fbf].[/quotee638263fbf]

Read the [be638263fbf]entire[/be638263fbf] article, then come back if you have any more questions.

so do you have to have a special kind of tv?

You would need a tv HD capable...and the reason that bluray is simply a disk that holds more info, is b/c that's all HD really is. Higher Resolution = More Info being displayed in every frame.....

I can still get a PS3 if I have a regular TV right?

WOW! Yes it works on normal TVs. You aren't going to get the benefits of BRD unless you have a HDTV. BRD and HDDVD are both $30/movie and there is no way to know which format will win. I saw a demo of HDDVD and wasn't all that impressed...

even though I am a fan of BlueRay i saw a feature in HD-DVD i dont know if its standard but the 360 drive can do this but the bookmarking of any scene you want for later, while the movies is playing can blueray do this.

It really isn't about which standard is better. BetaMax was way better than VHS and MiniDiscs are better than CDs but they didn't win. Sony sucks at this game...

wrong sony developed DVD's and CD's which are still used today. And also betamax faild because it didnt record as much info as VHS, and it came out later. Blueray is going to win because to many companies are backing the format the only way for there to be a loser is if players played both and i still think blueray will win. come on they have 100 gig disc you dont want that? One more thing ps3 gives it the advantage over HD dvd because it will be in the households of millions i bet it will surpass the people who have HD DVD players now by the summer. If M$ wanted to invest in HD DVD they should have put it in the console then i would have said HD DVD could have won.

Millions at some point but at $600 it isn't going to be an easy purchase plus you forget DVD is what people know.

it will be replaced just like VHS got replaced and i bet people will buy the players as plasmas and LCD's get cheaper this holiday season

The name DVD is what I mean. Ask the average non-techy consumer what HD-DVD is and they'll probably say, "High Definition DVD." Ask them what BRD or Blu-Ray is and they'll have no idea. That has a lot more value than you realize...

ok i see what you mean but people will know what BlueRay is when PS3 comes out have you even seen the list of people that support it that too makes a BIG difference

PS3 has a small market compared to DVD's in general. Not everyone is going to immediately know what Blu-Ray is when ps3 comes out..shit, i bet 85% of girls and older, non-video gamers have no idea when ps3 comes out and probably wont even notice for months, if ever

I hope they both make it in the market... Like Coca-Cola and Pepsi... Most people prefer the crisp, refreshing taste of a Coca-Cola (HD-DVD) but there's enough of a fanbase that prefer an ice cold Pepsi (Blu-Ray) as well.
