I am at work right now (3rd shift) and pick up a hotspot in the parkinglot of this shopping center and get online several times a night here. Right now it is 35 degrees (thanks Mac weather widget! D ) and my hands are quickly going numb... could this harm my Macbook?

As long as it is not freezing. And if it is then the humidity in the air can freeze and mess with the chips.

And you don't have Random Shutdown Syndrome in the cold? LUCKY.

Just make sure there is no condensation, taking your macbook inside where it goes from cold to warm very quickly can cause condensation, destroying it. But to answer your question directly, cold is not much of a factor, however, moisture is.

Just keep it as warm as you can. It shouldnt be a problem unless it freezes. But if you use it in your car, just turn your heater on to keep it relatively warm.
