Tar in his hand. GO CARDS!!!!!!!1

my question is wtf were the umpires doing.. telling him to wash his hands without inspection? thats bs. julian tavarez got thrown out of a game and served an 8 game suspension for a foreign substance on his hand. it didnt seem to matter much anyhow.. he dominated the rest of the game w/o it.

geej86

22-10-2006 22:42:40

bs!! clump of dirt!

justinag06

22-10-2006 22:45:45

no that's bs.

I like kenny rogers, I always liked him on the rangers and were upset we got rid of him. I was enthralled to see him pitch so well tonight, overall though I am rooting for the cards.

anyhow there is no way you pitch 1 inning of the biggest game of your life with a big old clump of dirt on your hands by accident.

geej86

22-10-2006 22:51:23

well whatever. he pitched a great game regardless and i got drunkz0red watching it. hope they make it to a game 6 so i can go again.

justinag06

22-10-2006 22:57:27

yeah i am seeing this as a 6 or 7 game series too, detroit is probably going to win 3 no problem, and I don't see carpenter losing at home.

Whatever was on his hand was out there for ONE INNING. He pitched 7 more scoreless innings after that... after 15 scoreless innings before that. I don't think he had anything illegal on his hand, since he obviously didn't need to cheat.

lishrugli Sounds like your mind is made up though, so whatever floats your boat.

Go Cards!

I hope this goes to 7 games, just to make it exciting. Here's a before and after picture of Roger's hand.

I think he was probably cheating, but I don't think he needed to. He did pitch well the rest of the game.

...GO CARDS!!!

CollidgeGraduit

23-10-2006 04:04:45

Whether it turns out that he was cheating or not (since I don't think it's possible to prove it now), I'm glad it was just for one inning, and not during any controversial plays. I still don't believe he was cheating, but that's just plain stupid of him if he was..

I was just watching sports center and they went back and looked at close ups of his hand from ALCS games and he had the stuff on his hands again. This [u1a336f0a5d]wasn't[/u1a336f0a5d] an accident. I just wish that LaRussa would've made a bigger deal of it and that Rogers didn't get to wash it off before the umps checked him out.

I'm sorry but any amount of pine tar doesn't help you out that much, and he dominated without it. Even if it was there in the 1st inning what does it matter? I mean that was the cards best inning against him.....

how the f did you get tickets?

Even if he did cheat, how do you explain the fact that you couldn't score a run on him in innings 2-8? And if he did have pine tar on his hands, how did he get it off so quickly by using just soap and water?

Anyway, we can argue back and forth about it all night.. but LaRussa was content with how Rogers came back the 2nd inning, as were the umps. If he was cheating so bad in the 1st inning, how come the Cards didn't do any better once he washed his hands?

x323smostwantedx

23-10-2006 19:04:47

He just didnt use the pinetar yesterday, he also used it in other playoff games.

beanman25

23-10-2006 19:06:25

he used it later in the game, aswell as earlier games. He claims it was just "dirt" but how could he get said dirt on same spot on hand each game?

CollidgeGraduit

23-10-2006 19:13:25

I'll believe it when it's proven that he's using pine tar to cheat. If the league decides that he cheated, I'll be the first to say you were right. Heck, I don't want my team to have a tainted world series win.

But, until then I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt.

thats the problem tough. MLB hides every problem they face or at least they try to. Look at the steroid situation. There will never be any proof he had tar b/c he was just told to wash it off. wtf? They didnt even investigate it.

Anyways, I think he did have tar on his hands. It was also said that he may have had some under his cap or something and in his glove.

What makes me not believe he used tar, was because it's my understanding that it can't just be washed off quickly/easily, unless you have something strong to do so, such as gasoline. I think if Tony LaRussa really thought that the Tigers were cheating to increase their chances to win, he would have pursued it.

kidd2108

23-10-2006 19:33:33

According to Tony Larussa, he didnt want to jeopardize his friendship with jim leyland. He said it on yesterdays interview. Aparrently today he changes his mind, wtf?

http//sports.espn.go.com/mlb/playoffs2006/news/story?id=2636485

Anyways, he clearly said yesterday that his friendship was a factor and that he didnt want to go strip search Rogers. According to him, as long as Rogers took it off it was fine, but if Rogers didnt wash his hands, (larussa) would take it to the next level. I hope someone could find that interview. Thats all i remember.

Theres a great explination right now that it was Pine tar if you have YES network.

If the Mets pwn, wouldn't they be in the Series instead of the Cards?

TryinToGetPaid

23-10-2006 20:20:02

I do not know, but he was definitely using something. He had the exact same thing on his hand in a previously playoff game, which means it was not just dirt. Which means he was lying.

But he still pitched amazing even after he washed it off....so if he can pitch without it, why use it?

They realized that losing in the Series would kill me more than going out in the NLCS. Very considerate of them.

The cards didn't do better because he's actually a great pitcher. I think he's cheating because of the pressure of having so many scoreless post season innings.

ILoveToys

23-10-2006 20:57:58

really...i mean come on...how much difference can pine tar make...their best inning was during the 1st inning when he had it on his hand...was it pine tar??? probably...was he the 1st guy this post season to use it??? probably not....

It's sort of like wanting to call back any big run in football. You know there was a hold somewhere according to the rules, but it happens all the time, so it quite often goes without notice. LaRussa needs to be fired if the only reason he didn't pursue it was his friendship w/ Leyland. Sounds like a woman more than a baseball manager to me....

The fact remains, he pry cheated, but they couldn't touch him after his hand was clean.
