iPod battery

My sister says her iPod battery doesn't last more than a few hours, and it's brand new (obviously). I chaged it fully when I first opened it, so I don't know what the deal is.
We're going to an Apple store now, but does anyone have any ideas why the battery might not be lasting very long? It wouldn't be a big deal if it were lasting 10 or so hours, but it's not even lasting three hours.

you have a one year manufacture warranty i was actually at the apple store today and i was asking them about the battery life because sometimes i feel like mine is going for 12hrs but mine isnt going that long because of my itrip. you should be able to get that taken care of for free check with your apple store and bring it with you because they can run a diagnostic test on it

Yeah, I just came back, and there was 2 hour wait to get it serviced, so my sis is gonna go back tomorrow when there's no wait. How do they know if we are still under the one-year warranty? I know that it's a month old, but how will they know since we don't have the receipt or anything?

itrip - FM transmitter for the iPod, so that you can tune in your iPod in your car and listen to it from your car stereo.
and speaking of itrip, does anyone know what the range is on that thing? lets try blasting the iTrip from the bedroom to the living room and tuning in on the stereo -P

My iTrip range was 20 feet, but they said it wasn't reccomended to be that far away because you'd lose quality.

back to the battery subject. is it totally dying on her in like 2 hours, or is she just going by the battery gauge. i swear the battery meter on the ipod is the most ineffective and inaccurate battery meter I've ever seen.
i fully charged mine, and i put it in my car. it says i have half. so then later on i put it in my car again, the sliver of battery life is almost non existent, then i look back 2 minutes later and it shows half again.....
my SIK IMP car charger and line out adapter should be here in a couple days anyways, so i won't need to worry about battery too much, now i just want to get the $40 adapter for the back of my jvc head unit, it takes the CD changer port and converts them into RCA jacks. i have the aux input on the front, but I'm just tired of of plugging it in an out all the time...

That's interesting. I think she is going by the battery indicator on the iPod. She said she fully charged it, then went on a flight. After 3 hours there was a layover, so she got off, looked at her iPod, and saw that it was showing almost no battery left. She then went to an outlet and charged it during the layover.
Are you looking at the battery indicator, seeing that it says low, and just letting it go and it eventually shows more battery?

sometimes it does that. I've read other reports about how inaccurate the battery indicator actually is. it's good practice to run the battery completely out about once a month, so i did this the other day. i kept on thinking it was going to die because the batter sliver was so tiny, but it just kept on playing (it eventually died, but spent most of it's time looking really really low).

So it lasted more than the hour or so that the low battery level is supposed to last?

prob, this was a few days ago and i suffer from short term memory loss. i know that it lasted a helluva lot of time when that battery meter was just a sliver.
i also know I've never gotten their 12 hours out of it. but i know to get the 12 hours, you have to have it fully charged, hit play, and don't touch it anymore at all. no back light, no switching songs, nothing to make it think about anything, which i think it's kind of bullshit to give a batter length statement like that, but hell, companies are just dishonest
