What does the status bar (at the bottom of the browser) say when you hover your mouse over the link? You could just right click it and click Copy Link Location.

And it'll probably not be PayPal's site.

Just hover your mouse over the links and see where they are trying to send you. It's an obvious phishing attempt, but check anyway.

The sad part is some people fall for those emails =/

exactly. how people fall for these is beyond me.

but,
forward those to email==spoof@paypal.comspoof@paypal.com=spoof@paypal.comspoof@paypal.com/email
and forward the ebay ones to spoof @ebay.com

they claim they look into those.

I get those all the time in my scambaiting account. I tend to "bait" 419 scammers into wasting their time with me to ridicule them.

I opened up a new email address and everything and only commented 3-4 Nigerian guestbooks and BOOM phishing emails, Nigerian scam mails, UK Lottery Winnings, etc. galore

By the way, fake webcam services get to you too so DON'T GIVE YOU CREDIT CARD NUMBER TO ANY WEBCAM SITE U GET FROM AN EMAIL.

Yes. PayPal has an email address you can report fraud and scams to.

lichecks the siteli

https//www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_contact

Click "Fraud > Spam/Suspicious Email"

"Copy and paste here the email you received"

And then your message, like what you want to tell PayPal yourself.

Give them the links too.

Yea yea yea. Do what Dave said. That way you can just foward the email to them or something. So they see it directly.

Dave82

16-10-2006 17:36:30

they get 72387274974932 of these emails. You dont need to write them about nigerian bob trying to get you password. they created the email address SPOOF so they know what's coming.

But definately good you are reporting it. I always take the 4 seconds to forward those in hopes they are actually cracking down on some of those scammers.

Make sure when reporting phishing e-mails to PayPal, banks, or anywhere else, that you include full headers and HTML source. Just forwarding the text of the message itself, and especially just a screenshot, is a waste of their time and yours as it does no good at all from an investigation standpoint. They MUST have full headers and message source in order to track down and identify the e-mail origination.

so cant you just press the forward button (provided your settings include all of the message, wwhich most do as inline text)

I imagine most e-mail clients properly forward all headers, but who knows, then you've got all the webmail clients out there...

I'm just saying be aware and make SURE you're sending all the headers. Try a test by forwarding to another e-mail account of yours, then viewing the message source/headers to see if you got everything.

A lot of people cut & paste phishing e-mail content into the web-based form that PayPal and a lot of banks provide, but if you don't include the headers when you do that, then you aren't giving them anything useful.

The really sad part is they have access to paypal users email= database. I have always used catch all domains for my email so when signing up for something the email will be email=sitesigningupto@mymaildomain.comsitesigningupto@mymaildomain.com database. I have always used catch all domains for my email so when signing up for something the email will be email=sitesigningupto@mymaildomain.comsitesigningupto@mymaildomain.com/email

Paypal was originally email==paypal@mymaildomain.compaypal@mymaildomain.com=paypal@mymaildomain.compaypal@mymaildomain.com/email. I never give out that email= for someone to pay me, I use gmail for that. I have changed it to email=paypal2@mymaildomain.compaypal2@mymaildomain.com for someone to pay me, I use gmail for that. I have changed it to email=paypal2@mymaildomain.compaypal2@mymaildomain.com/email and email==paypal3@mymaildomain.compaypal3@mymaildomain.com=paypal3@mymaildomain.compaypal3@mymaildomain.com/email and they always get the email.

It's pretty surprising and sad how sloppy some of the large companies are but with this setup it is easy to filter spam so I never have to see it.

I always forward the email= to email=spoof@paypal.comspoof@paypal.com to email=spoof@paypal.comspoof@paypal.com/email so they get the headers.

WhyPayItsFree

AND NEVER USE THE LINK GIVEN IN MAILS THAT CLAIM TO BE FROM PAYPAL.

ALWAYS OPEN PAYPAL - HttpS//www.paypal.com/

There are some sites that are exactly like paypal so they make you login to that site so that they can get your ID...

17-10-2006 14:15:47
