I need to analyze this poem and write a long ass essay, but I can't seem to understand it very well, though I do have some ideas.

------------------------------------------------

What hope can be kept alive, what pure premonition,
what irrevocable kiss sunk in our hearts,
acknowledging the roots of need - and the intelligence
self-confident and smooth on always muddied waters?

What live, quick wings of a new dream angel
lock in my sleeping shoulders for a perpetual possession
so that my path between death's stars
thursts me into an orbit days, months and ages old?

Perhaps the natural weakness of anxious and distrustful creatures
fitfully craves some stay in time, some space to fill,
or weariness and the implacable heaping up of ages
flood over like the lunar wave of a new-born ocean
on empty beaches, on eroded lands.

Oh that the identity I am might go on living and ceasing to live
and that I might so acquiesce in this iron age
that the shocks of deaths and births might not disturb
the deep, deep heartland I reserve for myself forever!

Let what I am be then, in some part, at all times,
set and secure, a passionate witness,
taking itself to pieces carefully, unendingly preserving
the obvious pledges made, the original duty.

C'mon smarties, I know we can do it.

Whoever makes the most sense of it, gets +KMA and $5. Yay.
