I guess means in six years we're due for another attack on November 11?

Seriously though, holy shit. But to be honest I'm surprised it took this long for another successful attack.

EDIT Guess I should read more than the headline before making a post. Anyway, could this be a suicide bomber? It is inevitable that they will start cropping up in the U.S.; has it finally happened?

doylnea

FBI is reporting that "no reason to believe the incident was terrorism-related."

TryinToGetPaid

11-10-2006 13:14:16

Yeah, but I always wondered.

Couldn't the terrorist buy 50 - 100 two seater planes and fly them out and slam into things? There really is no thing to top them, because my girlfriends mom's boyfriend had a two seater plane and basically you just buy the gas at a smaller airport, and fly out. No questions asked.

TFOAF

I think it was just a horrible accident. They said it was either a commuter plane or a private jet.

1st reports the plane belonged to cory lidle of the yankees

There are no indications if he was in it, or who was on it. The 1st reports are that he was on the plane, heading home to Flordia. He was also a Pilot.

Also, there may have been a mayday called from the cockpit.

R.i.p.

Cory Lidel is being reported as the pilot (

The mayor will have a press conference in a few confirming details. As of right now, it's a 'horrible accident'

RIP Lidle.

11-10-2006 14:12:01

If you look at the map. He took off from New Jersey, and crashed in New York, which is north from the crash site.

And he hit the building coming from the north, but he was supposedly going to Flordia to go home?

Another detail that will have to be ironed out.

Tsmith10803

11-10-2006 14:14:59

not a fantastic day to go flying either (
It's raining insanely hard as of right now, then again earilier today it was not raining, just muggy and foggy

Tholek

11-10-2006 14:15:10

Damn. I go to physical therapy in that building.

This would be awful if it was precipitated by being cut by Sterinberenner. (

Tsmith10803

11-10-2006 14:17:35

It's a nice building too.
Then again, he may have not been on the plane, maybe just friends or someone. 4 are dead as of right now, 2 from the ground, and 2 from the building.

Tholek

11-10-2006 14:23:17

Yeah, it has a really cool entrance area and cafeteria.

I hope this was just an accident.

Hmm, well, if you go to ESPN.com and look at the frontpage, you will see that they confirm Cory Lidle died in the plane crash. (

TryinToGetPaid

11-10-2006 14:39:46

No one has confirmed that he died, but as said his passport was found on the ground and it was his plane.

Also, they said he circled the Statue of Liberty before turning around. And radar lost him because he was too low to be picked up.

If I had been, I probably would've been fine anyhow. Sports Medicine/Physical Therapy is on the ground floor.

I wonder if the instructor or Lidel was at the yoke when it hit the building?

dmorris68

11-10-2006 14:49:30

According to reports, the reason he hit the building from the "wrong" side is because he knew he had a problem and had turned around to get back to the airport. According to one witness, who is also a pilot, "It looked to me in retrospect that this was a pilot desperately trying to get back to the airport and land safely on a runway."

He crashed within minutes of calling in the mayday, there's no way it could have been acted upon, guys. It was a fuel problem, apparently.

Tholek

I'm relieved in a way. At least it wasn't intentional. Still a tragedy, though. (

they found his passport also

Is that something required when flying private planes?

Maybe he faked his death to go live with Elvis and Tupac.

First thing that came to mind when I heard this was reports of the terrorist's passports on top of the rubble of 9/11.

TryinToGetPaid

Passport, but it is possible. The plane hits it and it goes through the fire and down onto someone's ledge, strange shit has happened.

Things fly out when a plane crashes. I'm sure wallet wasnt the ONLY thing they found. I doubt he thought to throw it out so they could ID me. They knew the plane was registered to him.

Tholek

It depends on whether he'd be on the road today. I think he'd probably have still flown if he was still in the area, but who knows.
