TBH You really cannot have a free email service without it being unprofessional.

topbillin... this thread cracksme up.

how is hotmail professional?

Tholek

10-10-2006 01:16:47

The only upside to hotmail I can possibly think of, is the intergration with OE, and that's only if you have an old account. New accounts suck balls.

IMO Gmail is without doubt the best free webmail service. Professional? Well, if a free webmail service can even [ib2873f0a3c]be[/ib2873f0a3c] professional, I think Gmail would be the most. )

Thats like the worst email service ever. I had an email account there, and their servers only working at certain times. It also deletes my emails randomly.

I still use yahoo. Honestly, I don't see gmail being any better in the areas that I give a shit about, so I haven't made a switch.

Nope...

What makes it so much better that it's worth the hassle of changing to it?

Tholek

10-10-2006 16:17:24

Yikes. I guess you only check your mail via their site. That is, unless you pay for a premium account.

I use a client, and even if I didn't, I wouldn't sign up for an account that didn't allow that option. (Yeah, I know about YPOP, but it's a pain)

bballp6699

10-10-2006 16:20:38

Yeah, I'd rather use the site. I have my outlook assigned to my work email and don't like cluddering it with other shit. Gmail is a better email service, but I don't see the big difference worth a pain-in-the-ass change.

dmorris68

10-10-2006 16:40:04

I wouldn't even begin to know where to start with describing how much better Gmail is than Yahoo. lol

I have several Yahoo and Gmail accounts, and since Gmail I've all but abandoned Yahoo Mail. It's utter crap, IMO. Yahoo Mail 2.0 is supposed to be AJAX-driven like Gmail so it may be better, but as of 1.0, Gmail pwns it.

My favorite features over Yahoo are the snazzy AJAX interface, contextual mail organization, better and less obtrusive ads, free POP service, more file space, and GTalk integration (GTalk is the only IM I use).

Aside from those, there are numerous other features

http//mail.google.com/mail/help/why_gmail.html
http//mail.google.com/mail/help/about_whatsnew.html

If Yahoo serves your purpose, fine -- it did mine as well before I found Gmail. )

I actually have my own domains and e-mail server for "real" e-mail, but still use Gmail for a lot of things, I like it that much.

bballp6699

10-10-2006 16:48:23

That's basically my point. Yahoo serves my purpose. I read mail on it. I don't need all the fancy hoopla... ;)

Yeah, I use Gmail for everything, and I don't think it's good enough to be worth switching for. I just happened to be switching e-mail providers anyway (my college account finally got deactivated)

I've been beta-testing Yahoo 2.0 (some of my freebie email addresses are yahoo) and have found it to be very slick. It's a very nice interface (think old school OE) and very, very fast. I actually think Yahoo competes well with Gmail (my primary email provider) with regard to functionality of Yahoo 2.0. All of the other gmail features (threaded content, etc) are lacking. Now if you want to talk about a crappy email service, Hotmail's new Beta is awful.

Gmail > Yahoo 2.0 > Hotmail Beta

Yeah, my wife uses the new Yahoo 2.0, and I really like it a lot. I've just never caught on to using Gmail's system of labels as opposed to folders. However, it's too much of a pain for me to switch e-mail providers. If Gmail let you choose between folders and labels, it would be perfect.

I use clients at home, not at work. At work, I'm stuck with web-interfaces.

11-10-2006 14:15:31

I have numerous e-mail accounts and e-mail forwards. For most I use clients. In fact I have my own e-mail server at home as well. ) But for many purposes I still prefer webmail accounts.

GMAIL= BADASSS

its so quick ( a lot faster than yahoo mail)... im talking about the interface and moving around btw.

its got a bunch of cool features... like the calender and shit.

and its got free popmail and forwarding, something that would cost you 20$ a year w/ yahoo.

GMAIL PWNS ALL.

I got tired of all the crappy email services so I bought a domain with my first and last name and I made my own email. My friend hooked me up with superior hosting, so I have virtually any space I would ever need or want. But for other purposes, I always use GMAIL.
