This happens around this time of the year (it happened last year around November/December)

My mom or dad will pick up the phone while I'm not home, some rude person is on the other line demanding to talk to me and calls themselves "The Bank" or doesn't give a name, doesn't specify which "bank", etc. and makes weird references to a wife I don't have, etc.

does this happen to anybody else? It's frustrating not being able to talk to these guys one-on-one.

Of course knowing how jumpy my parents are they might CLAIM the callers are aggressive/unfriendly or shit like that. I don't even know anymore. They keep saying the people sound like collection agencies or shit.

THey call his supposed place of residence and he picks up and says he doesn't live there? I don't see that one working.

I get calls from some guy from the future. It shows up on my caller ID as Creditron Fin.

If I was from the future I'd be called Creditron Fin.

There was a scam going around at my office that i dont work at anymore, somebody called from american express, gave a badge number and started asking the person on the other line all of this info of there account. They said apparantly somebody has charged the user 400 dollars on some calling machine purchased online, the guy said he never made that charge at that time the person on the phone gave the guy at my office his cc #, name, experation date and even the security question and all he needed was the CID on the back of the card to validate it was him. The guy gave it to him thinking it was a real rep, after the call ended he called the number on the back of his cc and the opperator he spoke with said that this is the 10th case of this type of identity theft and low and behold, a 400 dollar charge was added within a minute as the guy was still on the phone with opperator.

Information isn't that hard to retrieve guys, comon we should know, most of the offers we do are not protected by https.

My dad gets so many telemarket calls, we don't even bother answering the home phone any more shrug Part of it is because we own a timeshare and there's always companies bugging us to sell it...

Yeah, but if he says he doesnt live there, and then they say Ok maybe YOU can help me out.... then for 100% for certain it is nothing but a telemarketer.

register with that 1-800 number and any other calls you get say, "ADD ME TO YOUR 'DO NOT CALL' LIST"

That cuts a lot of those calls.

I am getting those pesky automated elections calls now.... about 3 per week

After signing up for an i-deal site and doing all the offers req'd I've been getting a lot of junk calls.

A fake number would be fraud. Ask Peter about it.

Okay seriously, back on topic.

Collection agencies for Novapointe (Cheat and Eat, White Over Nite, Burn Fat 2, Time Factor, etc.)? Collection agencies as a whole? The bank asking about why I have so many charges on my account yesterday (doing 12 offers on I-Deal)?

But if it was the bank why were they "secretive"?
