I noticed many people on this forum play either WoW or GW. Just curious to see which one you like better and why. I know both are time wasters for a lot of people, but I would like to know user's personal opinions. With new versions of both games coming out, it is going to be an interesting clash.

Well I just got WoW and after criticizing it forever now I'm actually suprised to say I like it quite a bit. I mean.. it's no Halo (I'm a die hard shooter fan, of course) but it definetly is very entertaining.

Ya, I bought Halo 2 and would rather play that over any MMO on Xbox Live.

yeah (over a year) but that still doesn't take away how awsome the game is. It was more like a forced removal from the game rather than willingly. I played the beta version and loved it so much I got it as soon as it came out.

is GuildWars free? I know wow cost money, but I was always wondering about GuildWars.

Yeah, I got suckered in by a 10-day trial of WoW from a friend. Like a crack dealer, the first taste is always free.

I've never played before. Why is it so addicting? I've played Warcraft 3 a couple of times, but I have never even seen WoW.

I never wanted to get into WoW because of all the horror stores but I've played GW. The gameplay is kinda boring but the grpahics are pretty damn good

Completely different type of game. I don't know why it's addicting...it just is. If you play the game, and you like it, you're screwed. I'm not joking either. I know people that played it, and said they'll never play it again, even though they liked it. They kept on playing it...stopped talking to people, stopped doing stuff, and eating...etc. It's really bad. O_O

Lol. People just say its addicting. I didnt know it was that serious. I just try it out sometime...

TFOAF

03-10-2006 21:03:24

When I played it...I literally sat there for hours on end...playing, and playing, and playing. I didn't eat, except if I was really hungry. I didn't even go outside to get fresh air. It's worse than drugs. rofl.

Yeah, I like the "rest" feature they put in the game though. if your logged out for a while then you will get double XP.

Coincidentally, Comedy Central is airing an episode of South Park where Stan and co. get addicted to WoW. It's on tommorow night!

That's been around for over a year.

If you play for over three hours, supposedly a government OP will come in and like de-level your characters, take your epic/high level items, and all sorts of "punishment".

Personally I don't find WoW addcitive. Although I just started playing and it is entertaining I just don't see myself getting addicted to it. Maybe it's because in the past I was [b95e20361cc]addicted[/b95e20361cc] to Halo 2 and quit just like that and so I know if it happened in the future I could probably do just the same again.

So far I like it and everything but these kids (like my brother) who play non-stop really need to get some serious help because after I seen what playing Halo 2 too much did to me and my grades and stuff I wasn't happy I went down that road, haha.

A lot of the time people argue to that video games take away from a social life, but I know since I got WoW about 4-5 of my friends play it and we're all starting to play together now while we chit chat over Ventrilo and stuff. It makes the game a lot more fun when you're playing with people you know I think. So far I'm not hooked but everyone tells me come end game quests and raids are the addicting part. P So we'll have to wait and see.

Guild Wars FTW! Super graphics, great gameplay, instanced world (everywhere, not just specific dungeons), you can solo most missions with henchies if you want, and best of all -- no pay to play!

I played DAoC for awhile with a bunch of friends, and it was addicting -- for all of about 3 months. Then I tired of the level and crafting grinds plus the $12-$14 month. Getting into Guild Wars was a perfect balance of MMORPG without the headaches and the monthly fee. I was skeptical that they could maintain the servers and update the games without that steady monthly income, but now it's obvious that wasn't a problem. A year and a half later, GW still updates almost daily, and new content is continually added. The Factions expansion is fantastic, and the Nightfall expansion is out 10/27.

If you only like PvP, you can roll a maxed out character and jump into an arena, you don't have to grind to level 50 or 60 first. The max level is 20 in GW which reduces the grind plus the game has a deep and engrossing storyline as opposed to games like WoW and DAoC that have only a very thin concept of backstory because your characters are there for their own agenda, rather than to further a plotline like in GW.

johnjimjones

04-10-2006 17:47:26

hmm no monthly fee you say.....

TFOAF

04-10-2006 17:48:00

Correct, Guild Wars only requires the purchase of the product itself. ;)

[quote5d29c58e6f="johnjimjones"]hmm no monthly fee you say.....[/quote5d29c58e6f]
Nope, just $40-$50 for the game, and any expansion you choose to buy later (but are not required).

If you were a WoW junkie, and left the game reluctantly, you may not like GW -- I know a lot of die-hard WoW and DAoC types didn't. OTOH most of my fellow (real-life) DAoC buddies went to GW on my recommendation and have played it ever since, with the exception of one guy whose wife and daughter also played DAoC liandli WoW at the same time (they were paying for like 8-10 monthly accounts, since they each had extra buff bot accounts). So he played GW for a short while, but went back to the pay-to-play because that's what his family played and he wanted to play along with them.

It's a different game style, you have to give GW a fair chance and look at it like a new game, not like another pay-to-play-MMORPG. I've played both sides, and for me, GW is a much better game. But ultimately it's just so subjective, people seem to just love one and hate the other.
