iPod not recognized by comp

just recently when I'm plugging my ipod into the comp, it says this "USB device not recognized." It doesn't even charge when I plug it in. I've downloaded the newest itunes and ipod software, and had no problem. just within the last two days this happened. Anyone know how to fix this?

mines been like this for months, I havent been able to update my ipod for over a year, and I tried Apple, and they were no help... gl, ill be intersted to see too, all I have is a "Device is not formatted, Format it now?" box how bout you?

no, it's not coming up with that message. I've also noticed that even when I plug it into a wall charger it doesn't even charge.

weird, when i try to hook up my ipod to my pc too it says the USB has malfunctioned

happens to mine, sorta!!!! I plug it in my computer and it doesnt recognize it at all.
But then i charge it to the wall and it works perfectly.
I tought it was the cable cause my pc doesnt recognize it all.

If you have the newest iTunes, open it up, and then plug the ipod in. It may give you the option to restore the ipod, or to update it. if that doesn't work, try a hard reset on the ipod itself.

try resetting it. hold the top and middle buttons for 5 seconds

tried resetting it, didnt work. also tried installing the new version of itunes, i didnt tinhk that would help due to this being a windows problem and like expected it didnt.

Same crap happened with my shuffle. I just requested a replacement from apple since it's under warranty. One was at my house the next day VIA DHL.

Nope, no one on any of the forums I visit have been able to help either. I'm gonna buy a wallcharger and hope that works until I get to the apple store.
Edit I found this on google, its for nanos, but it may work with your video ipod. Unfortunate for me it didn't work (

I bought mine in December of last year.
I went to the ipod store today, hoping something was wrong with my ipod so I could get a new one D, but it turns out the only problem my ipod had was I needed to purchase a new USB cable. I always heard stories of how they replace your things for free, but they made me pay 20 bucks for this 2 dollar peice of equipment. -/
