Sorry, if this question is blunt...

but do most domain services require just a creditcard number (simon) that they can continously bill?

I was hoping to make a site and not give up my address or personal info.

And where is the cheapest domain transfer sites? godaddy?

If you're talking about registering your own domain name, ICANN rules require accurate contact information on all domain registrations. Most registrars offer private registrations for a nominal extra fee, whereby they proxy your contact info -- they put an intermediary contact on the registration, which hides your info from WHOIS lookups.

Some people register with bogus info, but it is not recommended. If someone were to complain to ICANN or the registrar, you could lose your registration or something.

you should use real information. the hosting companies are legitimate businesses. I am on dreamhost and it is great, I should be able to find you a coupon code to get one year of hosting for like 10 dollars

dreamhost also now offers anonymous whois. if you just want a cheap domain only with no whois godaddy would be your best bet.
