Could someone check out a sonnet that I made and see if the iambic pentameter is alright? I can give $5 paypal or neteller for help. It's a 14 line sonnet with 10 syllables per line.

Post it up.

I've written over 60 sonnets so I'm pretty proficient with iambic pentameter.

Ok, I'll post it up. I guess I can make it into an image so my Shakespeare teacher can't google it or anything. This is the first sonnet I've written btw so it's pretty crappy. Thanks in advance.

If they all can only have 10 syllables, then

line 4 - 11 syl - change "what to say"
line 11 - 11 syl - change take out word "no"
line 13 - comma after fly

oh, and BTW, good thinking about not posting it in words. My TA once told me that they actually do do random checks on that sort of thing. Not that anyone would suspect this was plagerized. (not an insult, just meaning it is very modern. and plus term papers are the ones they check more)

how is this being graded? is it basically you do it and get credit?

are you in college or high school?

i am not being mean, but can i re-write for you if you are college??

Bill

Here's the revised version after making the changes you told me to do. I am a senior in high school, the sonnet is being graded on creativity/cleverness and proper format (iambic pentameter, number of syllables, etc.), I believe it's 50% format, 50% creativity. Thanks for the help by the way.

I always figured you were older than that Bill, given your casino wisdom...

Bill

I like it, better choice of diction than my sonnet. Does it all follow iambic pentameter though?

Yeah, I don't know many people my age who are into making money from online casinos but I know a lot of underage online poker players.

Dream Not sounds like a good title, might use that. Iambic pentameter is a an unstressed syllable followed by a stressed syllable http//en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iambic_pentameter

[quote90240b9e90]What is Iambic Pentameter?

liDefinition Iambic pentameter is a meter in poetry. It has an unrhymed line with 5 iambs or feet. Iambic means the stress is on the second syllable, an example is the word good-bye. Pentameter shows us that a line has 5 feet or clusters of two syllables adding up to 10 syllables a line. These feet are marked like this Hello/hello/hello/hello/hello.

Who used the form of Iambic Pentameter?

One of the famous people who used this is Shakespeare. The poetry Shakespeare used followed a metrical system. There are many differing forms but his most often relied on the Accentual Syllabic. This is verse made up of pairs of triads (groups of 3) of syllables that alternate or group stresses together.

What is a stress and how would it be used in normal speech?

A stress on a syllable is shown with a accent above it as in the word mu´-sic. Stressed syllables are usually the same as they would be in normal speech for example– to/mor/row. This is how we would normally stress the word while saying it on the second syllable. You wouldn't stress the third symbol because it would just sound weird.

[quote90240b9e90]What is iambic pentameter?
Consists of one short syllable followed by one long syllable one unstressed syllable, by one
Pentameter is 'a measure of verse having five metrical feet.'[/quote90240b9e90]

No offense taken, thanks a lot for the help. I'll try to figure out the iambic pentameter of the revised sonnet despite being bad at it.

Just so you guys know, google would not find this page for a few months, at least, and if you edit it out later it will probably never find it. So if you're handing this in anytime soon just post the text and make it simpler for the editors.
