I recently built a computer, and was gonna try to connect it and my old computer, and possibly my laptop, but my question is, do I have to have high speed internet to use a router, just for transferring files between computers?
Thanks!!
I was looking into getting one of these

It's xbox live compatable (thinking of the future)

I'm a computer science major and not a computer engineering major, so I don't know hardware all that well, but I do know that a router will work without a broadband connection!

ok, and another question, would I need Crossover, or normal network cables?
Thanks!

No. Crossover cables would be for going directly from one computer to another. You're going to want standard Cat(egory) 5 cables.
