I’m having trouble installing Sims 2.

I get up to 23% complete and it always stops at that point. It stops at “TSData\Control1.dat”.

I think my computer is more than capable of playing this game with 1gb RAM. What might be wrong?

Just so you know, this is a problem for a lot of people. But I am looking for a solution....

PS. Are you using virtual drives?

I don't know what is a virtual drive, but my computer is a Dell Inspiron e1405.

Like Daemon Tools or Alcohol 120%

Are you installing for an actual retail game or downloaded?

I think I downloaded Daemon Tools before. I deleted it and tried to install the game again, but it didn't work.

I am using a retail copy; however, it has been installed on a desktop already. I'm trying to install it on my laptop now.

Are you installing an Expansion Pack before installing the game?

Your posts steadily get worse. What does it being a Dell have to do with this? shock Sure Dell's aren't the greatest quality by all means but you get what you paid for.

Excuse me...? Why do I have a Dell over 5 years old...and never had a problem with it. Yea, I made a mistake because it costs too much, I'll build my own next time...but they work fine. Software installation has NOTHING to do with the computer's manufacturer. ;)

And related to the topic...I'll see what I can find. ;)

Do you have network access from your desktop to your laptop?

If so, rip the SIM 2 discs as images to your desktop HD, and then mount them on your laptop with daemon tools (if you have a dvd burner just burn the images to a dvd - it will be faster). I actually installed it not too long ago using DT and all the disc images. Then to play, just use the original discs.

check your disc for any scratches, try to clean it with a soft, static free cloth. This installation issue would not be due to poor computer specs.

There seem to be a few small light scratches. I'm going to try that.

I don't think I mentioned this, but the game is already installed on a Desktop. Would this be a problem?

Then just burn the images to a DVD and install it on your laptop from there (see above). PITA, yes, but it should work.

No, the fact that it's already installed on your desktop is not a problem.

Alright, instead of opening a new topic, since my question is related to the Sims 2 - If you go to torrentspy and type in Sims 2 the first result has thousands of seeders + downloaders. Health is in great condition, green all the way. I click on it to download it (I had bougthen it in the store but seem to have misplaced my disk) and my download is going 1kb/s to 5kb/s, no faster. Any ideas?

It might be that you haven't fowarded your ports correctly. Go to your bittorrent software's website and they should have a guide on port fowarding.

Other than that, I would have gone with Demonoid.
