What is the right amount of sleep a night for a human?

I ask because I just started working and I got to bed around 1130 PM, then get up about 545 AM.

Is this going to make me suffer in the long run if I don't get like 9 or something?

Ya, I have the exact same sleeping habbits as you. My family always tells me to go to sleep early, but I don't feel that tired. After I take a shower in the morning, I feel the same as if I got 6 hours of sleep to 9 hours. So ya, same question, any long term problems?

You can get by with 3 hours of sleep a day using the Uberman Method http//www.kuro5hin.org/story/2002/4/15/103358/720

That method forces you to sleep at the weirdest times.

I usually get 10-12 hours of sleep per night on the weekend, but during the school week I only get about 6-7 per night.

I probably get around 4-6 during the week, 7-8 on weekends. By some weekends I'm totally worn out and will sleep 10 hours on Friday night. )

"methods" of sleep are retarded. They make no sense biologically, and few, if any real studies have been done on them.

I sleep as much as possible. I was shooting for 6.5 hours last nite, and I was gonna run this morning at 7, but slept til 8....oh well.

I try to get as close to 8 as possible. People who acheive this usually are most productive and have the most alert minds. Even huge busy CEOs who work consistent 14 hour days manage to snag 8 hours of sleep I've heard.

I have an extremely unpredictable and unstable sleep pattern.

I've been thinking about trying to convert to that Uberman Cycle though.

Not enough. I try for 8 during the week (ends up being around 7) and possibly 10 on the weekends, but that usually ends up more like 8-9.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that during growth stages 8-10 (but not more than 10) is the right amount of sleep, but that adults will do fine with 6-8. I'm running on about 5 and will be napping later today )

I'm on a horrible sleep pattern...some days I sleep 3-4hours, and then others I sleep 12-18.....

I heard "6 is the new 8"....but thats just what I hear friends mantioning etc.....never actually looked into this.

I sleep about 6 to 6.5 hours of sleep a night on the weeknights because I just have to finish watching the Colbert Report before I goto sleep. On weekends, well, it varies but I can get anywhere from 8-12 hours.

Don't worry. I was reading some article in Fortune a couple of months back, on top CEO's of companies like the Nets' owner, founder of Craigslist, and Starbucks' owner, and they usually only get something like a max 5 hours of sleep a night. They have too much to do so their work keeps them up but obviously it doesn't hurt too much considering they are all rich and their companies are still operating.

How's everyone's napping policy (lol), I usually only do it when I get less than 5-6 hours at night.

During the week I get to bed around 2 or 3 AM. Roughly 6 to 7 hours of sleep per night.

Weekends, about 8.

I can't nap. Never have been able to.

I was looking for that, my oldest brother tried it one time, but he only made it like 3 days, they say if you can make it past the first week you will feel rested then after, but the first week is very hard to deal with... if I wern't running cross country i'd try it... that would be fun to have 21 hours of the day to do nothing, i'd find a way to make money in my spare time shrug

Everday I [i9957f2c37e]want[/i9957f2c37e] to nap but I never do. If I fall asleep and even get an hour or two in for a nap I'll wake up and end up going to bed extra late that night and that'll just make me super tired for class so I just tough it out throughout the day even if I get no sleep.

To be honest, I'm kind of used to not getting a lot of sleep.. maybe that's the hundreds of sleepless LAN parties I've been to or just it's become normal by now.

The average adult is advised to get at least 8 hours of sleep to let their body fully rest and to be at their most productive after they wake up. Obviusly it depends on what you do during the day though.

My Dad is a recovering alcoholic and at the start of the year he was sometimes drinking a big bottle of Vodka a night, then he'd walk over to the pub and drink there until it closed. He was getting about 2-3 hours of sleep each night and he sounded like hell when I would talk to him.

He's been sober for months, but he would only get maybe 3-4 hours after knowcking it on the head initially and he still sounded terrible. Now he is getting about 7 hours of sleep and he's completely changed. He's more active, walks more, smokes less and sounds like a changed man. Obviously a big part of it is down to him not drinking anymore, but it's also down to how much more sleep he's getting.

I think people take sleep for granted or at least don't think it's that big of a deal how much they get.

OMG, this is me exactly. I can sleep 14 hours some nights. Other nights i will go out, sleep 4 hours and wake up at 6am and be fine. And it's not like i sleep 14 hrs and then the next night get the 4 hrs. It's strange.

My brother sleeps only 4 hours every night, even on weekends. But he is OUT in those 4 hours. NOTHING wakes him up no matter how loud. I guess if your body is only getting a few hours per night it completely utilizes them.

I am not a lazy person, but i swear i can easily sleep 10 hours and then wake up and kinda sleep/stay in bed another 2 hours.

I read something on interval sleeping so i think i'll try that over winter break.

If I nap after school past a certain time (5 or so), I won't be able to get to sleep until 2am or so.

Same, and then if I go to bed late I never get up, and if I do I'm tired so it kind of defeated the purpose of the nap really.

I'm trying to go to bed at 930 PM and waking up at 730 AM.

So that's 10 hours. My first class is at 900 AM so I wake up, eat some breakfast. And leisurely make my way down to my class which is weight lifting. After lifting I feel completely awake and I'm ready to start the day.

I need 9 hours of sleep to be rested, otherwise I have to take a nap. This past Saturday I went ot bed at 1130 and woke up at 10 on Sunday then went back to sleep at 12 Sunday afternoon and woke up at 6. Being sick makes you sleep more. (

I couldn't read the entire thread, but you [i2298023f31]can [/i2298023f31]get by on 3-4 hours of sleep, but that's only if you can make yourself go directly into REM sleep. It takes most people a couple hours before they enter it, hence the 6-8 hours for the rest of us.

i get maybe 6-7 (sometiems 8) on the weeknights. And on the weekend i pack a solid 14 hrs a night, and sometimes a 2 hr nap on saturday. So i spend 30 of 48 weekend hrs napping. But the only reason I sleep this much is because I'm really physically active when I'm awake, so I'm pretty much done for by the weekend.
