Have you ever had sound?
1st and foremost check loose wires
Next Check sound card drivers and update it if necessary
Next Check if sound card is loose

Sound doesn't come from the computer. It comes out of speakers. P
Anyways, do you have a sound card? Did you always have this problem? Maybe a cable is loose in the back that connect your speakers to the computer. Try updating the drivers of your sound card. And maybe it needs a software update too. ;)
Try all those things and them let me know if it works. )
[ Edit Damn you TTGP, you stole my ideas. I was supposed to post before you. P I had all this written, but you posted before me. lisobli ]

Can you read my post before? And TTGP's post too? Check if your hardware is loose...install new drivers...maybe new software...check cables to see if they're loose...look up in the sky and tell me how many clouds there are, please. I really need to know the exact amount, or else the computer's sound won't work.
Edit Why didn't you just do what I said the first time?

The speakers are installed and they are on but no drivers are installed in the computer. Nothing is loose on my computer, I don't have any driver diskettes since I got a copy of xp from a friend.

ummm, so you are illegally using XP and admitting to it. liWaits for the FBI to snatch youli Ok seriously, go to dell.com and enter the type of computer you own, and it will give you all the drivers you need.
topbillin1
17-09-2006 16:56:38
downloading drivertoolkit.... I'll see if this can work.

It's not a illegal xp, it's very legit as a matter of fact it is a friends copy of xp. I'll go to dell right now.

And then go to India. So you can talk to the outsourcing technical support. They'll really help out. I can tell you they'll help you out better than us. Really, they will. They'll even tell you do turn your monitor off and back on. Or reinstall XP. Hey! Reinstall XP, except go install a legit version.
And obviously that's why you needed drivers. Windows XP doesn't come with sound drivers, however, if you bought the Dell computer as "new", it would be preinstalled.
And a friend's copy is illegal. If you read the "License Agreement" it states it cannot be used for more than one computer, and it cannot be duplicated.
Also...how on Earth did you activate an already been activated copy?

Exactly like I said. Illegal. Like smoking weed. Or prostitution. Or having Kiddy porn. Or killing someone.

Idiot, I got the dell from freepay is it was new, it came with xp home and I put alot of programs on it and it was suffering for buffer overflow attacks, I decided to change the os and go with pro, this is a dell xp professional cd that I got from a friend, I'm not a theif but I will admit to losing all my installation cd's that came with my dell.

You agree upon installation of a product to their License Agreements. ;)
Therefore, you have to uninstall your Windows XP. rofl

Download sound drivers from above link and install them. Do this and nothing else. Then post back if that worked or if it didnt. Since you say you dont have a soundcard, Im guessing the device is the onboard "SIGMATEL STAC 92XX C-Major HD Audio".
And stop busting the guys balls over his Windows. I think its safe to say most of us are running or have used pirated software.
