Ive got a question. I just got my 30 gb Video iPod in June along with a 3-year warranty from, I think, Best Buy. Now with these new iPods out, could I somehow swap out this one for one of the newer models since my warranty is still valid?

The iPod has to be broken and to avoid everyone doing this they ship it to Apple to try to repair it...

I think they will if yours is broken. My sister had a 3g ipod from bestbuy with the warranty. It recently broke and they replaced it with a 5g.

With warranties purchased through B&M stores, they typically cover the battery life. At circuit city, you can send in the ipod any time claiming the battery isn't lasting as long as it's supposed to. More likely than not, they will give you a gift card for the purchase price. I've found they rarely turn down a claim if that's the complaint.

You guys are seriously mistaken. I work at Best Buy Geek Squad, the service center for Best Buy. Let me tell you how the ipod warranty works. Nanos carry a 2 year replacement plan and if deemed defective without physical or accidental damage (being dropped or getting wet, etc) will have their defect verified by a Geek Squad agent and then be replaced in store with a store credit valuing the ammout paid for the ipod and tax. Full size ipods carry a 3 year service plan. Ipods with Best Buy service plans do not get sent to apple, they are instead sent to a Best Buy ipod service center in minneapolis where they are professionally reconditioned and then sent back to you. The technicians at the service center are professionals and if you "try to make your ipod look as if it has broken of its own accord" i can almost garuntee you will be caught. Thus voiding your warranty and leaving you with a 250-400$ paperweight. Also as far as the "unfixable" comment, the service center will never deem an ipod unfixable since they can replace pretty much every component except the screen (which is not covered under the service plan) and it would still be cheaper than replacing your ipod completely. However, Best Buy service does carry a no lemon policy where if you have to have your item serviced 4 times for qualifying repairs the 4th time they will authorize a junkout and you will recieve an equivalent or better model. So if you get your 3rd gen junked out today, they would then replace it with a 5th gen. I hope this clears up some of your questions about Best Buy's service plans.

12-09-2006 15:43:48

My only problem is that when you are sold the replacement plan they never say "bring it in and we'll send it out and if that doesn't work we'll replace it". They ALWAYS say "if it breaks bring it in and we'll replace it with a new one". Thats why the people were pissed...

I cant vouch for other stores but I hear what our salesmen say, and I hear what the customers say. And 90% of the time when they say that, they say it to get their own way or because they have selective hearing. None of BBY's employees are paid on comission so they have no reason to say that.

true, but not my point.

iTunes has brought cheaper CD prices, and other services like napster and real rhapsody to the forefront at a dirt cheap price. Does everyone use it? No, but I do benifit from it. I have lots of friends that use napster, and rhapsody too.

I won't be buying a movie for $12 either, id just as soon buy the dvd and watch it on my TV, watching a movie on my ipod seems silly to me.

I am curious to see how they fair in the market selling movies though.

If they succed we might see the MPAA more open to selling movies over the net, and have something like a streaming blockbuster site for $10/month, or simultanious release like that mark cuban thing. That is something I might be interested in.

Yes. Update to iTunes 7 and it will want you download 1.2 firmware (note that the seperate iPod updater program is obsolete -- you need iTunes)

The update lists bug fixes and ability to play games. That is for video, not sure about nano.

Did Apple say they'll give you a refund before or after the new iPods were released? (And did the employees know about the new iPods?)

What are the biggest differences? Is it buggy or anything?

I'm usually the first to download an iTunes update but for some reason this time I'm paranoid that there will be some horrific bug.

They end up in your Music folder. For my Mac, it's

Music -> iTunes -> Album Artwork

For Windows it should be

My Documents -> My Music -> iTunes -> Album Artwork

what you can do is google image the album name and drag and drop the image to where the pic goes on iTunes.

i know there have been free softwares that did this before itunes 7, and it worked with your song list. Nothing new, and the free software also fixes tags.

edit same battery (i think), better battery life is achieved now by adjusting with the new backlight brightness level adjustment. WHICH IS AWESOME for the night time.

That may be just temporary storage that iTunes uses. I manually edit my MP3 tags, as well as manually add album art. The cover picture is actually part of the MP3 file inside the IDv2 tag. That's where I put the pictures and my iPod shows them fine. However, when you add them thru iTunes, it may store them separately. I'm not sure how it works.
