What the hell is that?!? - Mac question

Okay, I got my new wireless keyboard from eBay yesterday. The description said brand new but the seal had been broken so when I got it, the CD envelope seal was broken and the CD wouldn't load on my laptop (Powerbook) for some reason. I just ignored that and added the device to my computer and it seemed to work fine.

Now I don't know if that has anything to do with the problem I am having but that is the only thing I can think of considering this just started yesterday.

I took a couple of screenshots to show what is happening. First, this annoying box won't go away. It appears around everything and it won't go away, even when I click somewhere else. This has never been there before and I have no idea what it is.

Here you can see the box around my hardrive icon that won't go away even when I click somewhere else. It moves to whatever I open and stays there until I open somethiing else, then it goes there.

Also, my laptop seems to be running kind of sluggish now for some reason. Before yesterday, it ran fast and without any problems. Anyone know what could be causing all of this?

I may take it to the Apple store to get them to look at it because I want to buy the extended warranty anyways. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Nevermind the box question. I think I fixed it. I don't think it was the disc that was having trouble, I tried other discs and my computer wouldn't read them and it would then eject each one. So now I can't do a fresh install since it won't read the discs. Time to figure out this problem now. Greeeeaaaattttt.

Yes, I am. I took micro last semester and now I am taking macro. Not too bad. Extremely boring however. My teacher is old and talks in a monotone voice the whole time.
