So I'm going to a casino to play poker for hte first time life, any tips for me? I've played online a ton, making good money doing it, but this will be my first live table game, what should I be aware of before going? What are big differences between it and online poker?

How do you tip the dealer and stuff like that, how much?

I figure i'll watch for 30 min or an hour before I start playing...

Well I've played live before, and just tip the dealer a small amount out of each pot.....

Just throw him (or her) a few chips out of the pot after he rakes it to you )

Just play your game and pay attention...look for tells and keep track of tendencies. Also, try to avoid any tendencies which might carryover from online play (i.e. setting your cards aside when you intend to fold). Another thing is, perhaps moreso than online, some of these guys will have DEEP pockets!

I saw some guy sitting at a $10,000 max buy in table last night on Full Tilt with a $68,000 stack shock

Guess who?

i love to watch the high stakes omaha on there, is playing strictly or holdem on full tilt or what OMW?

and tjwor dont tip a lot

a small pot dont tip a big pot maybe $1-3

you see the regulars rake in $150 pots and toss $2 to the dealer. It took me a few hours to realize i was tipping too much.

Where do you play online to make your money? I play on Pokerstars and feel comfortable enough now to start using real money but it is hard with them because of the deposit selections that they have. Where do you play and how do you get your money safely deposited into an account? Minimums?

Partypoker has microlimit tables to start out with. Neteller is the easiest way to transfer money in and out of poker rooms since they use it. Minimum is 50 unless you use neteller instacash then it's 10.

Well, didn't go well...

I got there an hour before the poker opened, so i took my extra $4 and put them in a slot machine, won $60, went to another machine w/ $3 and lost, went to another w/$3 and won $360, so I started the day up $400, My first poker table was 1-2NL, bought in $200, sat there for 7 hours, won 4 hands (1 was just blinds) and bought in a total of $300, lost that and played in the $50 Multi Table Tourny, lost w my all in w/ a set of aces on the flop to a flush draw, was ready to leave but was with a friend who didn't wanna go yet, so I put another $100 down on poker and played for another 5 hours before losing that, so I ended up losing $50 on the night (, i'll be back again tho, the tables were great if I had just been able to get a hand...

in the 7 hours I sat there, I got AK 1 time, flopped nothing, AQ 1 time, flopped nothing, the highest pocket pair was 6, not a single suited connector that were face cards... I played about the best poker i've ever played for the first 7 hours, but after the tourny i was on tilt...

if you are successfull online player the transition to live is not always a plesant one. A very less skilled live player can own you if you are not carefull

furthermore I find it much harder to play against much older players. You just can't bluff them or buy them out of the pot. You have to be patient.

last I truely hope you studied caro's book of poker tells before going there. I'm sure it sounds noobish me reccomending books to you, but that one is a must for all live play.

My roomate is a poker master. He will have you pick a card out of the deck, put it back in and shuffle it untill you are content. Then he will engage you in conversation and study you as he flips up all the cards in the deck as you watch them come up one by one, untill he decides you have seen your card. I've watched him do this trick on amatuers like 10 times and he always gets it. Tells account for a lot live.

I see you play poker differently than me too. At that 1-2 table I would have bought in for the minimum, $50 or $100. I prefer playing a short stack at cash games. After I double up, id probably leave and go to a different casino and play there. Then again i'd probably get my chips in faster too.
