Anybody installed Windows Service Pack 2 and found it worth the effort? And does it change WMP at all?

It adds a nice popup blocker to ie. There is this annoying little icon for the security center. Images in outlook express don't load unless you tell it to. Also ie doesn't automatically install active x scripts. Windows media player wasn't changed. That is a separate download.

And, BTW, I would definitely recommend downloading WMP10. It adds a lot of features and is hella faster than 9.

id recomend installing it. it doesnt change too much, but i do like the pop-up blocker (even though i hardly use IE), and the new windows firewall does add an extra sense of security when using it with another firewall.

Remember you can get SP2 on CD shipped free from Microsoft.

and this probably would be better-suited to the off-topic forum.

It all depends on what kind of setup you have. If you are connected directly to the internet on a cable/dsl connection without any router or firewall, I would install it immediately.

If you already have taken the appropriate security measures for your computer, there is no immdediate need to install it. However, it is a good upgrade to XP so it should be done eventually.

Before you do so you may want to check if you use any software that has known issues with SP2 at http//support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=842242

I have installed on a few machines at work without any problems.

Wow...I didn't even notice until now that you even spelled your username wrong. It should be "Disastrous". All grammar nazi tendencies aside, though, what SP2 may do is up the default security settings in IE. These can be very easily changed. I had some ActiveX control automatic downloading problems, but those were fixed just as easily.

I would definitely recommend SP2 if you have wireless on your computer, because the additions to the Wireless Zero Configuration make it a lot easier to use. There are some other minor additions, including the XP Security Center that monitors your firewall, antivirus, and automatic updates to notify you if there is a problem with any of those three components. I had to reinstall NAV CE 9.0 after SP2 for the Security Center to detect that I had it installed, but other than that I had no problems with the whole security thing.

I've installed SP2 on all the machines in my house and it is working flawlessly, and IE's built in pop up blocker is excellent!

My only complaint, and it's not much of one, is just that if you just click "next next next next" like most people do after installing, windows firewall is automaticly enabled and boy that can cause problems with many games and applications.. other than that though, i'm very happy with it.
