Seems to be a permissions problem with the new host. Let me look into it.

EDIT Okay, it's fixed now. Witness my new avatar. ;)

Gentoo is for posers who want to look like geeks. Fedora and Ubuntu are for us long-time Linux geeks who don't have to pretend. ;) P

Been using Redhat for 10 years, Slackware before that. Fedora was a natural progression from RH for me, as I knew where everything was. Ubuntu/Kubuntu is growing on me though, I've always like Debian distros as well.

Ok, this reminds me of a song I found a long time ago called "Hold me tight" by Wymen (link to dl here http//www.wymen.net/downloads/GBStudios_and_WyMeN_-_Hold_Me_Tight.mp3)

The lyrics are a hoot when combined with the music.

Now it says it must be under 29kb?? and between 125x125. I have seen people with animated ones and bigger then 125x125 surely.... How can I get a good one at under 29kb?

They can be animated and be well under the 30KB (actually 30,000 bytes, not quite 30KB) limit -- look at Brok3n_Sword's Cosby avatar right above your post, it's only 14KB. 125x125 has always been the limit AFAIK and is plenty large. Mine for example is 100x100 and I wouldn't want to see any avatars larger than that, as it screws up the formatting of the forum pages.

A GIF or indexed PNG will result in the smallest size. A true-color JPEG or PNG can be larger but at 100x100 should still be under 30KB -- mine is 13KB. Find one you like and use your favorite graphics application to scale it down as needed.

Yea but if I scale down an animated one how do I keep it animated??

If I open it up with photoshop or PSP its not animated...

I have a ton of avatars but even they are like 90kb... even for a tiny spider....

It should have frames if it is animated. And usually the program will edit the image one frame at a time, which is why you say it is not animated at all. Also, make sure you save it as a .gifurl==http://=http:///url

dmorris68

Yes, animated images require the GIF format, and IIRC, you can tell PS and Gimp to resize all frames/layers (in Gimp each frame is stored as a separate layer, it's been so long since I used PS I don't remember if it does the same). Or you could always manually resize each layer assuming you don't have 100 frames.
