I bought 5 games from Costa Rica when I was there a few months ago and they don't work on my PS2. I know they work there because I saw people playing with them.
Would a mod fix this problem? Any help in this field would be appreciated...

There are many kinds though... do they all work the same? Do I need to get a specific one for certain areas of the world? Which ones are better than others?
etc, etc. I really know nothing about modding chips. ?

I got a solderless one and it was easy to put in. If I were you, I would just choose the cheapest solderless one.

I use the swapmagic cd/dvd. Don't know if that does the job right for what your looking for. shrug

Check modchip.com/ps2/ps2id.htm to make sure the chip you buy is compatible with your ps2.

Odds are they are pirated so you need a firmware modification.

Thanks for the info y'all. I'll look into this.
So different mod chips don't cater to specific areas of the world? I thought with things like japanese PS2s or UK PS2s that the modchips would be specifically for those countries.
