In one and a half years it has became a one billion dollar company. That is fucking amazing!!! I have seen many other video hosting sites but what made YouTube different for it to become successful so fast? I am really amazed by how much money and unexplored territory the internet holds. May be I will create the next big thing, HaHa wink

No ads??? What do you mean? There are ads every where. That is how they make a bulk of their money, if not a 100% of their revenue is from ads. All these community sites make their money for impression and lead ads. Think about this 100 million videos are watched each day on youtube. That is a 100+ million impressions, you do the math.

Yea, there's a hell of a lot of money to be made from advertising, YouTube would be jackasses to not profit off of that....If you can get enough people to your website, you can become a millionaire without even doing any work....

The advertisements to me are pretty discrete in my opinion. In regards to the quote on what YouTube is worth, well, CNet had an article not too long ago where they stated that picking up YouTube for $1 billion would be a steal - they said it's worth probably about $2 billion actually.

It's pretty amazing how fast they evolved and became the next big thing. One thing that does kill though is bandwidth costs. They spend upwards of $1 million a month in bandwidth costs alone. That's not counting the 50 staff members they have to check all the videos and monitor everything for content - but hey, $2 billion worth in just a year or two? Wow.

$12 million/year=1.2% of what they are worth.

youtube loses money every month due to bandwith. No one will buy youtube for more than 500mil. Thats being generous too.

Hah youtube rocks >.> Although they have a lot of problems =/. They Never respond to any support inquiries I send them. =[. I still host my videos there. They have a good system I guess. Suscribers/Playlists/etc. They have a decent system set up for the people putting up their videos as well. Good statistics / Info. And don't forget. The name is catchy. Thats what makes it win.
