Step by step, i dunno if this is what you were looking for

(7x-8)^2[(5-2x)(3) + (7x-8)(-2)]

(7x-8)^2(8-10x-14x+16)

(7x-8)^2(-24x+24)

Problem2

simplify expression. write with only positive exponents.

1. (8p^2q^3)(-2p^5q^-4)

2. (-6x^2y^-3z^2)^-2

second set

1.) (8p^2q^3)(-2p^5q^-4)

[(8p^2q^3)(-2p^5)]/q^4

[(8p^2)(-2p^5)]/q

final -16p^7/q

2.) (-6x^2y^-3z^2)^-2

36x^4y^-6z^4

final (36x^4z^4)/y^6

Ewwww. I hate factoring!

nobody2000

29-08-2006 12:22:38

initial question answer, with how to do it. Refer to my previous posts for the answers too.

First, you wanna write it out, obviously
Next, notice the (7x-8)^2 and the (7x-8)^3 on opposite sides of the + sign. You can factor out the (7x-8)^2. So now leave that outside of big parenthesis that contain what's left.
multiply the 7 by the 3 and you get 21. 21 can now be multiplied by 5, and -2x to get 105-42x.
Multiply on the other side of the + sign the -2 by the 7x-8 to get 14x-16.
Add all that together, and remember to leave the (7x-8)^2 outside and you get the answer.

Second set of questions
1.) Write out the equation, since you have 2 q exponent values, one positive, one negative, you'll add them. You're left with q^-1 and that goes on bottom. Multiply out (8p^2)li(-2p^5) and you'll get -16p^7 on top. You have your answer.

2.) this one's easy. you have (-6x^2y^-3z^2)^2. when you have an exponent raised by another exponent (i.e. every value in this one is squared, then you multiply exponents. Also remember that the -6 will get squared too.
So you get 36x^4y^-6z^4. Remember again that negative exponents belong on the bottom of a fraction and you're left with the answer I gave in a previous post.

I've been having trouble with this problem and i'm not really sure what they mean when it says the "regression capabilities of my calculator". It looks like this problem should be able to be solved algebraically too but I keep getting a different answer. the answer to this problem is Y=.007t^2+4.82t+35.4, i'm just trying to figure out how they got there. any help is appriciated

YEAR 1970 - 75 - 80 - 85 - 90 - 95 - 00
CPI 38.8 - 53.8 - 82.4 - 107.6 - 130.7 - 152.4 - 172.2

Q Use the regression capabilities of a graphing utility to find a mathematical model of the form Y=at^2+bt+c for the data. In the model y represents the Consumer Price Index (CPI) and t represents the year, with t=0 corresponding to 1970.

what type of calculator do you have, if you have a ti83 or 89 you can do a linear regression analysis

Psyc

04-09-2006 19:26:09

Really easy process if you have a TI-83/84.

I had a 97 in math last year, then after a long long story, I called my teacher a bitch because she was jealous I'm in Mensa and she wasn't. (www.mensa.org incase you don't know)
I had to go to summer school, lol, I slept the whole time, and woke up for quizes and tests and got a 100 in the class. Haha, It was a lot of fun )

It sounds like you're being an idiot.

If mensa is composed of such bright people then why is their website so crappy?

I hate to be sound like I'm attacking you, but this is the way I'm seeing it.

nobody2000

05-09-2006 09:51:07

the mensa exam is a tough exam, and passing reflects a high level of intelligence.

Unfortunately, many people who pass the exam are in fact those lazy smart people, and use the fact that they're in mensa to make themselves feel and sound superior to everyone else.

do i know a lot of mensa people? Yes. Do they make asses of themselves all the time? Most of them do.

oh and mr. smartypants, try doing that through college..that sleep and take tests things. I know sooo many brilliant people who just won't do the work, and their averages are well below a 3.0 while other not so brilliant people work their asses off and acheive a 4.0 or close to it.

Life isn't about being smart. It's about having common sense and working hard.

I'm not proud of calling her a bitch, I just lost my temper. And I don't flaunt the fact that I'm in Mensa, she only found out because I have a shirt with the symbol, even though it's Tie-Dyed. Hell, if I was bragging about Mensa, I would've put a big banner in my sig or my avatar...I don't think anything of it.

The reason I did the sleep and take tests was because I knew the material from the school year. In normal school, I always work hard and try my best, believe me. I'm in the top 5 of my class, I know a lot about working hard to get what you want/deserve. wink
