I was just curious what everyone kept their resolution at? I have used 1024 x 768 for so long, but I noticed that my monitor supports up to 1600 x 1200 so I am trying that out currently. I notcied a huge difference, but I don't seem affected either way. I am going to try out some games to see if it effects those much.

Edit I am using a 19in. CRT monitor.

Dude, if you've been a 1024x768 all this time, you're seriously missing out. )

I can't stand low resolutions. My absolute minimum working res is 1280x1024, and that's when the monitors won't go higher. The only time I drop lower than that is to test a web page I'm creating to make sure people like you P can display it okay.

My primary rigs at home and at work both run dual-monitors with 1920x1200 on the primary, 1600x1200 on the secondary. My Linux workstation monitor at home (shared between 3 Linux boxes via KVM) runs at 1280x1024 only because it won't go higher. My Linux box at work runs 1600x1200 on a 17" CRT -- yeah, it's tiny. )

Are you all using CRT or LCD monitors and how large?

Both. My 1920x1200 monitors are both LCD's (Dell 24" 2407WFP and D810 Laptop). My secondary 1600x1200 at home is a Dell 2001FP LCD, at work it's a Viewsonic P220fb 21" CRT. My Linux monitors are both currently CRT's, but I have a 19" LCD on the way to replace my home Linux monitor.

What are the advantages of having higher resolution? I understand I can see more on the screen, but I prefer the larger text/pictures.

For me, I use it to everything's smaller and you have "more space" to work with and with webbrowsing you get to see more of the page so less scrolling (for the lazy) and obv gaming to see more.

For desktop work, you get lots more working real-estate, which is invaluable to me. For gaming, lots more detail and image quality. Of course you need a decent PC to game at higher resolutions with modern games.

I set mine at 1280x1024 on a Dell 20.1" monitor. The quality suck I gotta admit but at 1600x1200, its even worst esp. viewing white pages. Is it cause of my weak graphic card? Its a ait x600 pro.

2001FP or 2007FP? Something's definitely wrong there -- either of those LCD's excel at 1600x1200. An X600 should drive it just fine, assuming you're talking Windows desktop work (not gaming).

I have a GeForce4 MX420. The quality of 1028x768 clearly beats the 1600x1200. Does the video card have anything to do with it?

For desktop work, typically not. Almost any recent vintage videocard will drive the desktop at 1600x1200x32. It depends more on your monitor -- if you're running a monitor of marginal quality, or do not have your refresh rate set properly for a CRT, then quality will suffer.

Gaming is another story of course, you need a high-end video card and fast system to run most recent games at resolutions that high.

1024x768 on a flat 17" CRT.

/me thumbs nose at dmorris68. P

I don't like to sit [ieff4e7e36a]too[/ieff4e7e36a] close to a CRT, so I'm not not gonna bump it up further and have to squint.

EDIT Uh-oh.../me gone too?

I really do enjoy being able to see more than one post at a time like I did with the 1024 x 768, but the quality really blows. I am using a ViewSonic A95f. I have no idea what the refresh rate is of my monitor.

Its the newer one. I think its 2007fp. The quality isn't really the sharpest when viewing text, pretty hard to read and not good on the eyes. It has nothing to do with gaming. I know my card such at gaming.

1280x1024 on a VX922 (2ms viewsonic for gaming, good monitor not a lot of color depth compared to others though)

I use to run 1600x1200 on my old 22" CRT or even 2048xwhatever.

1024x768...15" LCD that's a few years old. That's the max resolution. Don't nag at me about getting a new monitor either...I'm lucky I could afford a RAM upgrade from 512MB to 2 gig.

I dread the day I have to do an overhaul on the entire guts of my machine. It's going to cost a pretty penny just cause I bought one of the last made socket A boards, and my vid card is AGP, so I can't just buy a few pieces to upgrade. (
