So I bought a graphics card, right? And then I realized I needed a new motherboard to use the graphics card. And then I realized I needed a new case since the new motherboard was so big. And then I realized I needed a LGA 775 CPU and a new PSU. And then I realized my motherboard supports DDR2 Ram and not DDR Ram that I had.
So my "upgrading" turned into "building". So I have a brand new computer basically and I'm going to sell my old one.
Specs on new computer
Asus Motherboard PL5D2 (or something..)
ATI Radeon X1600 Graphics Card (512mb Memory)
Pentium D - 3GHz (800MHz FSB)
Creative Audigy SE Soundcard
Centurion Case
ThermalTake 430W Power Supply
I originally had a 350W Power Supply, but I figured I'd buy a new one with a little extra Wattage. I still have to buy some Ram, thinking about putting in 1GB for now. My mobo supports up to 4GB
I'll take some pics of it once it's all built and cable management is complete! w00t!
Total spent so far $500 approximately.

Seem like you realize you had to do alot of things.

i would get a ps with higher watts, but anyways, dont get 4GB of ram if you have windows, if you have windows, get only 2GB max

why did you need a new mobo to run the graphics card? was it simply that u didn't have an AGP slot, or something like that?
Should have just upgraded to a higher socket all together. shrug
Edit Nevermind, I was thinking AMD.

Question If I have DDR2 RAM, will my choice of Graphics card be affected? I have a PCI x 16 express slot open so...

No, DDR2 has nothing to do with the graphics card. PCI-e motherboards use either DDR or DDR2 depending on chipset.

why did you need a new motherboard for the graphics card?

His motherboard only supported an AGP graphics card, whereas he bought another type.

It's a difficult story to believe. ;)
Who doesn't check to make sure a card is compatible with their PC first? Plus, why not return it once realizing it?
Then again, his subconscious might have found this to be the only way to get him to build a PC. D
Hey Chex, if you get a weird urge to buy a wedding ring....

I was going to do this until I realized that the cards that go for traditional 32-bit PCIe slots all suck balls, so I figured I'd just buy a motherboard. and things went on from there.
But yeah. I'm just going to sell my old computer, it's the one I got from bestbuy on black friday. the $40 machine P... so I'm hoping to get at least $200 since I'm giving them everything except the harddisks. D
