Is the Mac OS X better than Windows XP? Lately I've run into so many people using the Mac OS X and loving it even if they were previously a windows (xp) fan. So why do so many love the Mac OS X better than Windows XP?

What's the main differences? Pros/Cons? Can you run normal pc video games on it? (such as BF 1942, counterstrike, aot, aoe3). Name any other advantage or comment that you thinks relevant to a non-Mac Tryer such as myself who's thinking about trying it.

I've never tried the Mac OS X and maybe through all your comments I'll be a Mac lover as well ?

EDIT From what this guy has to say, Mac OS seems to suck hardcore.

(pretty funny vid if your a PC user such as myself)

I'm a pretty big fan of OSX -- I'd gladly use it equally as well as I would XP, except there's more software for XP, and like h3x said -- their hardware is proprietary garbage.

OSX is nice, solid OS, based upon BSD which is itself Unix-based. However, to answer your question no, you can't run Windows games on it. You're stuck with Mac-ported games. A few games might run (much slower) on a Wine-like emulator, but typically not the current, popular games.

And then there's the aforementioned hardware issues. You have no choices -- all your hardware comes via Apple and tends to be lower performing and higher priced.

For a gamer such as myself, who also writes a lot of Windows code for a living, and has been using Linux religiously for years, there really isn't much to motivate me towards Mac/OSX other then the novelty/curiousity factor, which is why I've resisted for so long.

na I play games all the time on my macbook pro. I just dual boot windows and boom. So you are not stuck! And now with parallels for macosx, everything is great. I love this macbook pro. It is the best looking and most reliable computer I have ever used. Not to mention it is a powerhouse, looks great, fast, and has great battery life.

There are more windows XP lovers than there are OSX lovers. You need to ask around [i7718319db5]outside [/i7718319db5]of your school's video editing lab.

Macs are only good for graphical editing things, other than that it's an overpriced junk.

Not to get off topic but what is the major difference bt Windows and Linux? I only seen a Linux running computer once and I thought it was windows but set differently.

My reference to not being able to play Windows games was regarding playing on OSX -- yes you can dual-boot an Intel MBP to run WinXP, but then you're running XP on a PC. I figured the OP was asking about the Mac operating system more than the Mac hardware. ;)

Unless you a are a hardcore gamer, there is no need to buy a PC over a Mac.

I like Macs over PC, but i do need and use PC for stuff, that Macs can use. Plus Mac softwares are usually more expensive, than PC softwares.

I prefer OS X over Windows over the annoyances/troubles I had with my PC but that's just my experience. I find Macs to be more useful though their software IS overpriced. I mean, $50 for a copy of the ORIGINAL Halo? =/

yeah screw intergrated graphics. I wish they didn't stick those in the normal macbooks. I guess that's where the pro and regular versions differ. Good thing I got the pro! )

LOL, while I think MBP's are pretty neat, that's an awfully bold statement that just doesn't hold water, if you're referring to performance. I seriously think your notebook -- Mac [i0ccc66eee4]or[/i0ccc66eee4] Wintel -- would have a hard time kicking my gaming rig's ass. And let's not even talk about my Linux workstations. ;) P

If anyone seen the video on youtube about the macs, he's right imo about one thing...if you want to upgrade your mac you have to throw it in the garbage. Look at the iBook...anyone who bought/has that is stuck with a crappier Mac compared to the new models, and Who pays for insanely overpriced software!?!?

TigerShark

27-08-2006 08:48:38

So...what's the verdict? Do PC's own Macs or is it purely preference?

The hardware is shit but their OS is too good to pass up. Especially with the goodies soon to come in Leopard...

As soon as someone ports Mac OSX to PC I'll be there.
