Who knows?!?!?! Well, my story was from today, so I guess that's the final decision. (
RIP Pluto, you were my favorite Disney cartoon character animal that couldn't talk.

they aren't taking out pluto. i was watching TV the other night and that group that decides on planets, have decided we will keep our dear old planet, just now, it will be classified as a dwarf planet.

Yea, I heard on the Colbert Report that they are going to be adding planets and not taking them away...The "qualification" of being a planet was lowered and I think some moons are becoming planets now too...

I'm glad they didn't add that asteroid.

check out wikipedia for pluto. pluto has been reclassified as a dwarf planet, and i think about 2 other dwarf planets have been added. now with this new classification, there are 5-6 other bodies orbiting around our Sun, that will most likely be considered dwarf planets in the near future.

yeah that seems to be right, i'm reading 3 dwarf planets though. When little kids learn about the solar system, they will make mobiles with 8 planets now, instead of 9. A dwarf planet isn't saying much as we just made up the term today and we have to classify pluto as something.

I think the only planet should be Earth until we discover some martians on the other "planets". lol

I'm taking astronomy this semester. This question actually came up last lecture. My prof. liked the idea of creating a new classification of "dwarf planets", of which there are many orbiting the sun further than Pluto.

I'm not satisfied with "Dwarf Planet" as a term. It sounds as if they are capitulating to those who discovered the recently reported bodies.
They should be classified as planetesimals or something else that marks a clearer line between the classes. I can imagine grade schools still teaching that they're planets with the current classification.
